History of the appearance of the layout
The first vest apartments began to appear back in the days of Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev, during the times of mass construction.
The secret of the name is extremely simple: the vest apartments were named so because they resemble children's vests. That is, the rooms on the sides of the corridor are the sleeves of a vest. The corridor, which is located in the center of the apartment, resembles the central part of the clothing.
Another working name for this layout is butterfly. This nickname is no less relevant: the corridor is the body of a butterfly, and the rooms on the sides are its wings. This can be easily seen in the photos of the layouts.
Houses of this type have been in great demand since their inception until today. In the modern world, not a single residential complex can avoid the construction of such houses, since they are sold out the fastest.
Minimalism in the interior of Khrushchev
Redevelopment of an apartment in a Khrushchev-era building is complicated by the fact that quite often during the renovation process it is necessary to move and remove walls in order to make the premises more spacious and comfortable for living. However, do it differently: reducing the number of accessories and furniture to a minimum in order to unload the limited space available.

Its distinctive feature is the use of light, neutral shades, slightly diluted with bright decorative elements:
tiles imitating “torn stone”, used to decorate doorways; paintings, the frame of which in color matches well with other decorative items.

Where did this name come from?
What does “vest apartment” mean? If you look closely at the plan of this apartment, you will notice a slight resemblance to a child's undershirt. The fact is that between the rooms located to the left and right there is a corridor or hallway, a bathroom and a toilet. Some apartments may have a small addition in the form of a small utility closet. This part, consisting of all the listed rooms, is the central part of the vest.
But the rooms diverging in different directions will represent the left and right sleeves of children's clothing. And, of course, the windows themselves are holes on the sleeves.
Initially, small-sized Khrushchev apartments with rooms facing different sides of the house, sometimes with a passage room in the middle, were called “vests.”
