Five rules for decorating the facade of a house

If you have a small area, we recommend using a minimum number of New Year's lights.
A large tree can be decorated with LED lighting with small bulbs - this will be enough to make the area look festive.
You can also complement your composition by decorating the facade with illumination of the paths.
If you want to illuminate the front of the house, we recommend decorating the roof and the wall so that you have a unified lighting system.
Focus on trees and bushes. If you're on a budget and can't decorate your entire yard, putting all your holiday decor on plants is the best solution. Decorate bushes and trees with LED garland.

Home lighting for the New Year holidays can be done in various color variations. If you prefer a more relaxed environment, then you are better off opting for single-color illuminations in a cold or warm spectrum. Also a good solution would be familiar models in which colors alternate.

Duralight

The third lighting option is a kind of symbiosis of LED garland and cold neon. Chinese craftsmen once hid LEDs inside a PVC cord and got the so-called duralight.

It comes in two types - flat (duraflex) and round.

Some varieties, just like flexible neon, can glow in a running fire mode. In addition, duralight can pulsate and flicker at a given frequency.

Today, this is no longer a particularly common facade lighting. And in some respects it is inferior to both neon and garlands.

For example, over time, duralight tubes will stretch and lose their original shape from year to year. Not to mention the fact that for many Chinese specimens, the insulation in the cold after one winter becomes completely unusable.

In terms of brightness, duralight is inferior to an LED garland. But it is worth noting the fact that this is the cheapest and easiest to connect New Year's façade lighting.

Therefore, those who are engaged in facade lighting for the first time prefer to buy it. It is sold in bays of several tens of meters.

Just keep in mind that you need to cut it off in strictly marked places, and not wherever you want. After cutting, the end is sealed with a special plug.

Wall mounting is carried out using mounting clips.

Despite the voltage being 220V, the connection must be made through an adapter that supplies direct current to the LEDs.

And if you want magical blinks and flickers, you will also need a controller.

Duralight can be expanded, but this is done through adapter couplings.

The 220V ends are also connected via pin contacts.

How to decorate the outside of a house for the New Year: choosing lighting devices

There are several types of lighting fixtures to decorate a country house. The choice depends on the scope of application and the dimensions of the object for decoration.

Duralight. This is a transparent PVC cord with LEDs inside. It is possible to cut it into pieces of various lengths. This device is not afraid of moisture, ultraviolet light and cold. It is used to mark the facade, the outline of windows and paths.
Belt-light. This is a thick wire with large light bulbs, the diameter of which is 5 cm. They are used to decorate large objects - for example, a perennial tree in the yard.
Net-light (network of light bulbs). This is a garland network with LED lamps. It consists of cells and diamonds with small light bulbs. This lighting option is used to decorate facades, windows, and arches.
Clip-light. Used to decorate trees and flowers. This is a low voltage garland for 12 or 24 V
A curtain. It consists of a horizontal wire to which vertical falling LED threads of equal length are attached. Suitable for decorating windows and house facades.
Fringe and icicles. This is a horizontal thread with falling vertical LEDs of different lengths. This type of decoration is used for roof decoration.
LED frames. You will need a strong frame on which you need to place duralights of various colors. This method is used to decorate vertical elements.

New Year's decoration of the site begins with the selection of LEDs and drawing up a plan for their placement. Buy a sufficient amount of material, select a color scheme, and determine in what order you will arrange the decor.

Building lighting

It is worth considering the most popular options:

Tape or mesh lighting with a flexible base. The wire of such a garland is protected by a special coating, which protects against moisture and low temperatures; light bulbs are located on this wire. This option has different ribbon sizes, so the diameter of the light bulbs will also be larger or smaller.
Duralight. The illumination looks like a long hose made of transparent material; small light bulbs or various LEDs are inserted inside. This tape is convenient, since only the upper part of the hose can have contact with snow and water.
Backlight with a rigid base. This is a suitable New Year's illumination for the home, the lamps are located on legs, they are usually fixed near the gazebo, along the paths or decorate the porch.
LED screens. They have many small LEDs built into them, which easily create unusual patterns or shimmer with bright colors. Screens of this type are used to decorate the ends of buildings in cities. They are controlled by remote control or work autonomously.
Spotlights. This device works well when there are a lot of mirror surfaces nearby. In winter, snow can become a good reflector, and the play of light will turn out magical.
Spot lights. LEDs are installed one at a time on a specific area of the building. These can be steps or railings; this is how the front of the porch is designed.

It is not necessary to settle on one of the presented options; it is enough to use several illuminations at once in one composition.

Decorating the house for the New Year holidays with garlands

First you need to build a New Year's composition with lighting at home. If you choose a house as a center, dedicate a minimum of decor to trees and bushes.
Decorating the roof. This festive decor is easy to make. To do this, take several skeins of garland of the same color and trace the outline of the roof. The idea is minimalistic, but the effect in the evening is quite bright. We recommend choosing LEDs that do not blink or change colors: the illumination will be uniform, without excessive variegation.
We decorate the facade. Place several LED strings on the front wall of the cottage: under the roof, in the window area and the front door. Decorate the house with garlands only from the front side; the back part can be left without decoration. Try tracing the outline of the front door and windows. Place a multi-colored garland under the window sill: decorate only one opening in this way so that the façade is not too bright. Place the LED arrangement in the middle of the front wall. Lay out a Happy New Year greeting from Santa Claus, make a circle, imitating a Christmas wreath.
Decorating the porch. Complete the New Year's decoration of the cottage with decorations on the porch. To decorate the front door, take several LED strips with the same color lamps and place them along the contour. Complete the composition with fir branches, New Year's tinsel, and toys.

Decorate the fences on the porch with garlands: wrap the LED strip several times around the rods. Attach the decor firmly to the base so that gusts of wind do not damage the structure.

Street lighting in the city

New Year's illuminations for the streets are also varied; cities use hundreds of decorations to make the streets bright and festive. To decorate a highway or ordinary city roads, elements of the hanging option can be used. Garlands are hung on prepared supports; these supports are placed on both sides of the road.

Suspended illuminations are often combined with consoles, so they are created in the same style.

The style is usually chosen according to the location. The concept is selected in combination with folk motifs or the upcoming celebration. In Russia in 2022, illuminations in the form of a kokoshnik, a snowman, Santa Claus, the country’s flag and other details can be used.

More often there are objects in the form of a three-dimensional Christmas ball, the figure of the Snow Maiden, a snowflake or a snowman, as well as other decorations related to the New Year theme.

To create such a composition, first a metal frame is made, and then an LED strip is attached to it.

Veranda decoration

Before the New Year, decorate your terrace or veranda. These are rooms that are the transition from the threshold to the residential areas. The space is decorated according to the same principles as the facade. We recommend hanging garlands in the y zone of the canopy: choose falling LED “icicles” or horizontal wires with multi-colored light bulbs. A stylish option is Chinese lanterns. Complement the facade lighting with voluminous simple lamps: they give more volume to the room. If there are pots free of plants, place LED strips in them. You will get fiery multi-colored bowls.

Glowing curtain

It’s easier with a curtain, since the installation of garlands on the facade can be done once and for all. There is no need to take them off, because they decorate the veranda well even in summer.

Before attaching the garland, you need to make calculations. Typically, a gap of 5-10 centimeters is left between the turns of the curtain.

How can you hang a garland? We will be hanging it forever, which is why we are looking for permanent installation. There are 2 of them in total:

Plastic hooks. Frequent fasteners for curtain installation. They are transparent, so it is almost impossible to notice them. They are fixed to the house using self-tapping screws and dowels. They are not bad for home decor, but they are not worth buying for outdoor use. Plastic doesn’t really like temperature changes, and if the region has variable weather (terribly cold in winter, scorching hot in summer), then within a couple of years it will crack. Moreover, the LED garland will always press.

2. Metal hooks. But they are suitable for permanent installation. Metal is not afraid of temperature changes and does not care about the weight of the curtain. The downside is that the hook will always be noticeable, although not very noticeable. When purchasing, you need to examine the metal. If it's ordinary steel, don't take it. It will quickly rust and become unusable. The steel must be protected with a stainless metal (nickel, copper). Stainless steel will also work.

We figured out how to attach a garland to the wall to the facade. How to connect it? Often, the New Year's lighting at home already has a step-down transformer on the control unit. Therefore, you just need to connect it to the network.

By the way, a garland on a window cannot be deprived of stabilization. Transformers are very sensitive to the quality of electricity. Any jumps can burn the controller and you will have to go get a new one.
