Some users need a drainer with pumping to the bottom - for draining pools or water containers. Not all submersible pumps have this capability. In fact, the water intake neck of the device should be 1-3 mm from the surface. Some models have removable attachments for this purpose, others are directly designed for such “jewelry” work.

What does the market offer?

The situation on the drainage pump market is as follows: the overwhelming number of offers are made in China, a small selection of domestic and European brands, there are American brands that are also assembled in China. Both the price and durability of the pump largely depend on the logo on the drainage pump. Products from the brands KARCHER, Pedrollo, DAEWOO, NOVA, Sturm

.
A good ratio of quality and price will be shown by models from the brands PATRIOT
and
Metabo
. Domestic companies, whose products are also in demand on the market, are not far behind them.

Choosing a drainer with pumping to the bottom

With such selectivity, the choice of device brand fades into the background. A user who needs pumping to the bottom should first of all pay attention to the following parameters of the drainage pump:

Availability of manual mode.

When pumping to the bottom, this function will avoid stopping the unit due to the activation of the float mechanism.

Water intake level.

This value directly affects the ability to pump water to the bottom. Ideally, the distance from the neck to the base of the tank should be within 1-5 mm. In this case, due to the surface tension of the sucked water, the residue level will always be below 5 mm. And in the case of a gap of 1 mm, pumping will be almost dry.

Pumping function to the bottom.

Such pumps have a removable (replaceable) lower part or an adjustable base, which allows you to change the distance from the water intake neck to the surface of the tank.

Pumping depth.

The maximum operating depth of the pump must be no less than the parameters of the pool or other tank.

We invite you to familiarize yourself with our selection of drainage pumps that pump water with virtually no residue. The rating includes units with the largest number of positive ratings from different users.

Drainage arrangement

This method is good because it allows you to combat the root cause of flooding - high groundwater levels. The result of the work will be its reduction. Unfortunately, this method is not applicable in every case. To understand why, let's take a closer look.

A drainage system is essentially a drainage system through ditches or special drainage pipes. Deep ditches on a site are dangerous and do not enhance its appearance, so they are not used for domestic purposes. With their help, you can, for example, drain a swamp in order to organize a place for a vegetable garden. Let's consider a system of pipes. A drainage pipe is a pipe of large diameter, at least 100 mm, with a network of small holes across the entire surface, buried to the drainage depth, that is, below the basement floor level, with a slope away from the house and a free exit. Thus, the use of such a system is possible only in areas that have their own slope. It is this that will ensure the natural flow of water and its free exit at the end.

Conclusion: if you have the opportunity to make a drainage system around your home, then it is necessary to do so. Either alone or in combination with other basement drainage measures, it will give excellent results and eliminate the root cause of flooding.

Types of pumps for pumping out water

Pumps for pumping water operate on the basis of different principles, which is why there are dozens of types. But only a few of them are suitable for pumping dirty water. The following pumps cope best with this task:

  1. Vacuum pumps. They work by creating a vacuum in the container for dirty water.
  2. Centrifugal pumps. In them, the impeller creates a centrifugal force that pushes out water.
  3. Vortex pumps. In such pumps, centrifugal force also works, but now it spins the water, and the resulting vortex sets it in motion.
  4. Vibration pumps. In vibration pumps, an electromagnetic coil acting on a piston alternately creates zones of low and high pressure, thus creating a flow of water.

In the list, each type is indicated according to its own assessment of their effectiveness in solving the problem of pumping dirty water. Now let’s take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of each type separately.

Vacuum pumps

Vacuum pumps are not afraid of swamp slurry, silt, liquid manure, and the size of the fractions, that is, dirt particles that such a pump can “swallow,” is limited only by the size of the inlet pipe. Such a pump takes water from any puddle quickly and dry. It is not afraid of “dry running,” that is, a condition when the pump begins to pump air instead of water. For any other pump, “dry running” is tantamount to a death sentence. It is no coincidence, therefore, that all sewage disposal machines in the world are equipped only with vacuum pumps. However, vacuum pumps are rarely used for domestic purposes for pumping dirty water. The fact is that the amount of dirty water for pumping is limited by the size of the storage tank. Continuous pumping is therefore not possible; the storage tank will have to be emptied first. This pump is also very demanding on the quality of its maintenance. It is important to ensure the absolute reliability of any connections, otherwise an imperceptible air leak will render the pump inoperable. Its storage capacity must be absolutely sealed, withstand vacuum inside, and withstand an aggressive environment, so it is already expensive.

But if you suddenly decide to buy your own sewage disposal truck for domestic purposes, then believe me, you will be happy with the vacuum pump and no sewage will be a problem for you.

Centrifugal pump

The most popular type of pumps. Everything is explained by the technical simplicity of the centrifugal pump design. The main parts of the pump are the casing or, in other words, the volute, inside which an impeller with blades rotates. Water enters the center of the snail, which is thrown by the impeller to its edges, and from there, through the hole, centrifugal force throws it out. A centrifugal pump easily pumps not only water with sand or process sludge, it does not care about any aggressive or viscous liquid. The capabilities of the pump are limited only by the material from which it is made. Therefore, the housings and impellers of pumps, which are positioned in the retail chain as pumps for pumping dirty water, are made of durable stainless steel or wear-resistant cast iron. The potential of centrifugal pumps is so high that they are used to make drainage and sewage pumps that can also clean a septic tank or latrine. Equipping the impeller of a fecal pump with a grinder allows the pump to pump liquid with fractions up to 50 mm. Centrifugal pumps are relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain. Vary by

  • Submersible.
  • Semi-submersible.
  • Superficial.

Submersible pumps

The device is designed to work with liquids from natural reservoirs, wells and wells. Such pumps operate while submerged in water. Pumps can pump it out from a depth of more than a hundred meters. The minimum depth is 1 meter, otherwise the device will suck sand from the bottom of the source, which will lead to breakdown.

Submersible pumps are installed completely under a layer of liquid at the bottom or suspended by a cable. The electric motor of the pump is reliably protected from water ingress and from “dry running”. A special float with a built-in switch will stop the electric motor as soon as the water level drops below the permissible level. The submersible pump provides special operating comfort; it operates silently. However, the fact that a submersible pump also mediates the main difficulty of its use. Every time maintenance is required, an unpleasant and time-consuming procedure for removing and dismantling the submersible pump is inevitable.

These devices operate silently, do not take up much space and require almost no installation. A significant disadvantage is that for maintenance and repair work the pump will have to be removed from the reservoir/well/etc.

Semi-submersible centrifugal pump

There are no operational disadvantages of a submersible pump; it is easy to maintain. The pump either floats completely on the surface, or only the electric motor is above the surface, and the pump body and impeller are under water and connected to it by a long working shaft. The electric motor of a semi-submersible pump no longer requires careful protection from moisture getting inside, which has a positive effect on its cost. However, the performance of a semi-submersible pump is lower than that of a submersible pump. This pump is not capable of pumping water with large fractions of solid matter; its impeller cannot be equipped with a grinder. In terms of its capabilities, it is no longer closer to fecal, but to drainage.

Surface pumps

These devices are used when pumping water from lakes, rivers, and wells. The liquid enters the pump through suction. The greatest depth from which water is taken is 6-8 meters. There is no minimum depth as such.

A surface centrifugal pump is even easier to install and maintain than even a semi-submersible pump, because such a pump is located away from the surface of the water; only the supply hose is lowered into it. However, the operating capabilities of a surface pump are lower than those of a semi-submersible and submersible pump. The surface pump is not subject to depths that are easily accessible to them, it is sensitive to the selection of electric motor power, and the noise of its operation can be noticeably annoying. A surface pump is not self-priming, that is, a prerequisite for its operation is to first fill its housing with water, which is not required for a submersible or semi-submersible pump. The entry of air bubbles into the pump, which is usual for a centrifugal pump, significantly affects its efficiency for the worse. A surface pump requires separate protection from precipitation; it is more difficult to protect it from the consequences of a sudden “dry run”. With all this, the surface pump is a frequent choice of users due to its low cost, wide range of tasks and ease of everyday use.

To avoid overheating of the device, it is not recommended to leave it in direct sunlight for a long time. You can install a surface pump on your site, in the garden, etc. Such pumps are small in size, which makes them convenient to use. Of the minuses: they do not have sufficient sealing, since they are installed above the water level and are not intended to be immersed in liquid. They can also pump out dirty water.

Vortex pumps

They are also able to cope with dirty water, but to a limited extent. For them, this limit ends with small suspensions in the pumped liquid, because swirling fecal slurry is still a task. The capabilities of vortex pumps are fully revealed when the goal is to create strong pressure at the pump outlet, for example, when fan-watering plants, even with dirty water from a pond or well. And here there are no competitors to the vortex pump. A vortex pump is technically simpler than a centrifugal pump, which means it is cheaper, and it is noticeably quieter.

Vibration pumps

In our line of efficiency pumps for pumping out dirty water, we will place vibrating pumps in last place. Such pumps are classified as piston pumps. A hard rubber piston is in constant reciprocating motion created by an electromagnetic coil. Such pumps are produced only in a submersible version; their power is not high, so they are classified as garden pumps. Vibrating pumps can pump water and sand, but not for long; very soon the abrasive will render the rubber piston and the pump itself unusable. The undoubted advantage of vibration pumps is their low price compared to any other types of pumps, ease of use, low level of electricity consumption, and unpretentiousness to its quality. Therefore, despite the fact that the capabilities of garden vibration pumps are limited, there is no need to talk about their use as drainage or fecal pumps, such pumps are popular, and above all, among gardeners and gardeners. True, not everyone can withstand the obsessive sharp sound produced by a vibration pump.

Drainage pumps

Such devices are designed for pumping contaminated water from flooded objects (basements, cellars, etc.), reservoirs (pools, ditches). They work with liquids that contain sand, silt, clay, and various debris. During operation, the pump is installed at the bottom of the area to be cleaned. This leads to the main disadvantage: to replace or carry out repair work, such a device will have to be removed from the reservoir. The devices are also used in agriculture: for irrigation of greenhouses and small plantations.

Just like surface pumps, drainage pumps are small in size and convenient for transportation and operation. It is not recommended to use it for work in an environment where the water temperature exceeds forty degrees Celsius.

Causes of basement flooding

Flooding can occur in both dry and wet weather. Water enters the basement of a private house during heavy rainfall in the summer and during heavy and rapid melting of snow in the winter. Liquid also penetrates foundations and walls from surface water and stormwater. Basements are, in principle, susceptible to moisture ingress, since by their structure they are underground and below the level of groundwater flow.

The sewer system also contributes, through which water penetrates into the basement of the building. In most cases, it is installed below the foundation, but the water level in its system is higher than the floor level in the cellar. Then the liquid will simply drain into the underground room. Typically, water should be removed from the house into the sewer system, but when the system is disrupted, the reverse process occurs and the moisture is sent straight to the basement.

There are three main reasons for the appearance of water in dry weather:

  1. Malfunction of plumbing fixtures. The sewer system must be constantly monitored. Plant roots can damage pipes and block fluid flow. This slows down the draining process. Water from drains floods the basement. Leakage occurs from the shower, toilet, sink, so the structures should be changed or faulty repaired in a timely manner.
  2. Blockages. Watch what goes down the toilet, sink or bathtub drain. Objects can create a blockage and prevent water from draining properly.
  3. Pump malfunction. Drainage systems must function continuously to maintain moisture levels below the basement floor.

During wet weather, water filling occurs more frequently. Precipitation penetrates moisture drainage systems located underground. The load on them increases, causing liquid to leak into underground spaces. During periods of heavy rainfall, surface water accumulates in hard-to-reach places. Failure of waterproofing is also one of the causes of flooding.

Excess moisture on the surface leads to flooding of the foundation and accumulation of water around it. When the groundwater level rises, liquid enters the cellar through cracks, holes and other similar paths. As a rule, this happens in houses that are not new and made of fragile and low-quality material that has a porous structure. If a pump is installed, it must operate smoothly and effectively remove water from the building to the lawn or storm drain. If there is a malfunction in its operation or power supply, groundwater flows onto the floor.

In spring, rooms often flood

Submersible products

Using such equipment, you can pump out wastewater from a basement or cellar with minimal time. Such pumps have one feature. The thing is that the parts of the devices must be made of materials that are resistant to chemicals . They must also be resistant to corrosion. When using such equipment in septic tanks, you should understand that the composition of sewage is constantly changing, and these changes often have an extremely negative impact on the equipment itself.

Modern detergents contain aggressive chemical compounds. Most often they contain chlorine, various acids and alkalis . These substances negatively affect the efficiency of pumping equipment, shortening its service life and reducing durability. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on these points when choosing a sewage pump. The higher the reliability of the unit and the greater the power, the longer its service life will be.
