The World Architecture Festival will take place in Berlin in November 2021. Architects and entire creative teams from 68 countries presented 924 projects to a professional jury, from which the best will be selected in November. Beijing Daxing Airport, $13 billion

Beijing Daxing Airport. | Photo: People's Daily. The new airport in the Chinese capital will be able to serve up to 100 million passengers a year. The complex, consisting of 1.6 million cubic meters of concrete, 52,000 tons of steel, covers an area of 70 sq. km. Thus, when it opens in March 2021, Beijing Daxing will become the largest operating airport in the world. Two of the three largest Chinese airlines, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines, will take off and land at the new airport. The design of the Beijing Daxing building is made in the form of a golden six-pointed star.

Apple Park Campus

Foster in 2009 : “Norman, I need help.” He almost immediately began designing a giant ring-shaped office complex in the town of Cupertino, 75 km from San Francisco. This is where the Apple founder planned Campus 2 , the heart of his company. Zeitz MOCAA Museum of Contemporary Art in Cape Town

Johan Zeitz , a German philanthropist and collector, former CEO of PUMA, converted a grain silo in Cape Town into an art museum. Heatherwick Studio's team carved out huge sections from the tubular interior of the former silos and created eighty gallery spaces. Faceted convex windows are inserted into the openings, creating a visual kaleidoscope effect and making your stay in the museum even more fantastic. Thomas Heatherwick has become known as a real newsmaker in the past year. The romantic architect was constantly talked about - either in connection with a pedestrian garden bridge over the Thames, or in connection with a landscaped floating pier along the Hudson in New York with a budget of $250 million. Both projects were frozen.

Stirling Prize

The Stirling Prize , awarded for the twenty-second time by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) , was this year awarded to dRMM for its renovation project at Hastings Pier on the south coast of England. The restoration of the 1871 property was funded by the local community.

Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech

The first museum in Africa dedicated to the history of fashion serves to perpetuate the memory of the legendary couturier. A palace with an elegant terracotta facade and the pattern that Yves Saint Laurent loved to use in his works opened its doors in Marrakech near the garden laid out by the artist Jacques Majorelle . The authors of the building are the architects of the Studio KO . Set designer and decorator Christophe Martin will create the interior using traditional Moroccan materials.

Then the finished housing will not disappoint. Before building a house, everyone looks for photo house designs. Sometimes it happens - people study photos of cottage projects, drawings, plans and diagrams - and at the same time they imagine a completely different structure. It’s good when an already constructed object differs for the better and exceeds expectations. And if not?

We were contacted by people who had already had cottages built. These buildings could be quite good in technical terms, but at the same time they were not very pleasing in appearance. Or they turned out to be completely different, not as they wanted.

Centro Botin

Pritzker laureate Renzo Piano realized his first project in Spain, and, of course, this is a museum, or rather the building of a foundation founded by the Botín family of bankers. Located on the waterfront of Santander Bay, the arts center with a total area of 10,285 square meters. m “floats” above the ground and consists of two D-shaped blocks connected by podiums and metal stairs that look like ship ladders.

Pritzker Prize

The Architectural Nobel, the most prestigious award for achievements in the field of architecture, was awarded for the thirty-ninth time. Its winner in 2021 was the Spanish bureau RCR Arquitectes , founded in 1988 by Catalan architects Rafael Aranda, Carme Pij and Ramon Vilalta. Other notable works by the firm include the building of the Bodegas Bell-Lloc winery in Girona.

David Adjaye became a knight

Great Britain still supports the institution of knighthood. The Head of the Order of the British Empire, Queen Elizabeth II, annually appoints knights, choosing from individuals who have made a special contribution to the development of British society. In 2021, the title of Knight Bachelor was received by a fifty-year-old native of Tanzania, architect David Adjaye , who, by the way, is the author of the Skolkovo business school in Moscow. In November, a team led by David Adjaye (also including Ron Arad and Katherine Gustafson) won an international architectural competition for the design of the National Holocaust Memorial in London, beating Norman Foster, Daniel Libeskind, Zaha Hadid Architects and others in the creative competition.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Prize

The award, in honor of the German-American architect, is the most prestigious award for the best building built in Europe in the last two years. It is presented in Barcelona, in the German pavilion, the famous creation of Mies van de Rohe. In 2021, two Dutch bureaus became laureates - NL Architects and XVW Architectuur . Architects have literally saved a dilapidated 1960s building on the south-eastern outskirts of Amsterdam from demolition, turning it into the deFlat Kleiburg apartment complex.
