Construction and design of a swimming pool in a country house - how complex the process is and how to cope with it

A swimming pool is a complex hydraulic structure that includes a bowl filled with water, a filtration system, lighting equipment and sometimes even heating. A separate, but often necessary addition is the roof.

With it, the tank remains clean longer, and owners can take water treatments during rain. There are several ways to make an indoor pool at your dacha with your own hands. Each type of canopy has its own advantages and installation nuances.

Kinds

In the language of engineers, a swimming pool is a hydraulic structure. Since such artificial reservoirs are widely in demand, a wide variety of standard projects have been created for the home, sauna and site. Are original solutions a priority? Then to develop the model you will have to turn to designers. In both cases, you first need to decide what kind of pool you need.

Outdoor pool without heating for use in the warm season

The construction of an open artificial pond on a site will require significantly less costs than one located directly in the house. However, the swimming season is limited to a few months a year.

Economical summer option Source vikantaqua.com.ua

It is recommended to plant dust- and wind-protective strips of trees and shrubs along the perimeter around the pool. If the site is located near a local passage, the width of the “green strip” should be at least 5 m (!) on the side of vehicle traffic. If we are talking about a highway with heavy traffic - 20 m (!).

What crops are used for green fencing:

  • prickly spruce;
  • fir;
  • cedar;
  • spirea;
  • honeysuckle;
  • mock orange;
  • cotoneaster;
  • snowberry;
  • Svidin.

At the end of the warm season, the owners will have to take care of preserving the reservoir: drain the water, clean the bowl with chemicals and brushes, dismantle filters and other equipment, close the drains and fill them with water with preservative additives.

Outdoor heated pool for year-round use

The operation of reservoirs in winter can be carried out through the operation of thermal equipment. This technique can be used for a pool located in a house or a separate building.

A powerful system can heat water up to 40 degrees in winter Source banya-ili-sauna.ru

To reduce heat loss, it is recommended to install pavilions - sliding structures that can be purchased in specialized stores. Since the heat loss of outdoor structures is much higher, and the largest percentage of heat is lost due to liquid evaporation, automatic blinds or bubble film are used during heating.

Indoor swimming pool in the building for swimming at any time of the year

This option is considered one of the most expensive and has many technical nuances that cannot be neglected so as not to flood or destroy the structure of the building. Not every soil can withstand the load created by a house and a pool filled with water.

In the room where the pool is located, the humidity is significantly increased, so it is isolated from the rooms to prevent the formation of mold and eliminate other problems.

Pool lighting uses a lot of energy. To reduce costs, panoramic glazing is installed in the room. However, this solution leads to an increase in heat loss, which is already large. Heating, lighting and air conditioning of a home pond consumes a large amount of electricity.

A swimming pool should be included in the house design, since it is difficult to remodel a finished building or one already under construction: the load on the foundation, water and energy consumption will change significantly. In this case, it is better to build a separate building.

If the area of the house does not allow you to choose a large-scale project, you can make a compact pool with a cozy room Source liversal.com

You can also build an artificial pond in a wooden house, for which the building must be equipped with a special heating system and the wood must be treated with preservative impregnations with chromium and copper. The design of a swimming pool in a wooden house is usually not cluttered with additional decorative elements of the interior.

Indoor swimming pool in a separate building or annex

It is not in all cases permissible for the foundation of the pool to be adjacent to the foundation of the building. If the area of the plot allows, an extension for the pool can be made at a short distance and a warm passage can be equipped.

Transformable pool with lifting bottom

A bowl with a rising and falling bottom can be installed both in the house and on the site. This option will significantly save space, which is especially important for plots with a small area. It’s not difficult to control the system: you press a button and the floor gradually moves down and the container fills with water. You can choose an option with a retractable cover, which you can also walk on.

Protective decking covers

A non-standard individual solution among protective coverings for outdoor swimming pools is the WALTER deck (France). This is a multifunctional mobile terrace cover for a swimming pool, which has an additional function: when closed, it serves as a recreation area.

It consists of mobile modules made of a metal frame, covered with any finishing material. 100% protection of the pool, which does not require additional coating, and an attractive design appearance - this is what distinguishes this type of pool cover.

Parameters for determining the cost of a stationary pool for a home and selecting equipment

The design of a swimming pool in a private house is usually carried out at the building design stage after geological studies of the soil and groundwater. If there are errors in the calculations, uneven shrinkage of the structure is possible, which results in deformation of the entire structure, requiring expensive reconstruction.

Bowl volume is the main criterion

The maximum characteristics are calculated based on the characteristics of the soil and the maximum permissible load on it. Therefore, not in all cases it is possible to create a large pool.

Do-it-yourself pool canopy at the dacha

Most awnings are either made to order or purchased ready-made. However, it is not always possible to find a roof of a suitable size, so some decide to build it themselves.

Indoor swimming pool project for a summer residence

The procedure depends on whether the pool has already been built or not. However, in any case, you will need to draw up a project or at least a simple drawing.

To do this, use 3D programs or online services. You can also remember school drawing lessons and do everything on paper.

Pool roof project in 3D program

When drawing up a drawing, it is important to consider the shape, dimensions of the canopy and all the materials that will be used.

Canopies made of polycarbonate - a drawing on paper is in no way inferior if all proportions are met

If a profiled frame is not acceptable, it is best to work with steel pipes. This material is very durable, so making an unreliable roof is problematic, even without carrying out calculations.

Having a pipe bending machine, they can be given any shape.

The strength of the structure should always be calculated with a margin, so that when snow falls, nothing bends, much less collapses.

Points to consider when drawing up a project

The easiest way is to install a canopy over the pool. This design is motionless, that is, it does not have complex mechanical parts.

The roof of the canopy should be made sloping so that the sticking snow can come off on its own. If the pool is semi-outdoor, I provide additional awnings to cover it for the winter (read the article about preparing the pool for winter).

Pool location

The most common options for placing home ponds are basements and basement floors. The optimal room height is from 2 m 80 cm if the bowl is recessed into the floor. The requirement should be observed, since when installing the ceiling, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems above it, the height of the walls will noticeably decrease.

If the bowl is located on the floor, the recommended room height is 3.5 m with a bowl height of 1.7-1.8 m.

You can't do it without professionals

Having a swimming pool in your home is quite an expensive pleasure , but those who can afford it will receive a lot of pleasant moments and pleasure that cannot be compared with anything else. But to avoid disappointment, to implement your plans, you must definitely use the services of professionals. They will tell you how to choose the right place for a pool, select the necessary materials for its construction and the appropriate equipment for long-term and successful operation.

Specialists, in addition, will make the necessary calculations, which the builders involved in creating the pools will adhere to. This will avoid unpleasant surprises such as water getting into the foundation. This is fraught with erosion and gradual destruction of the structures of the house itself. In addition, you need to take into account many other important parameters:

  1. It is important to know to what depth the soil freezes.
  2. How deep does groundwater go?
  3. A thorough examination of the soil itself.

A swimming pool is a structure of considerable volume, usually up to two meters, a little more than human height. The water pressure on the ground under the pool is also a serious test. So the approach to the construction of each pool is purely individual and must be carried out with all seriousness and responsibility. In addition, you need to consider where you will drain the water when replacing it, and from what source it will be filled.

If the house is located near a body of water with sufficiently clean water, then this will be enough to use it by running it through the purification system. But, as a rule, pools are filled from wells specially drilled for these purposes. At the same time, you need to take care of where, if necessary, to drain the water. You can’t just take several tons of water and pour it onto your plot because in this case you will end up with a never-drying swamp. This also needs to be taken into account before you decide to install a swimming pool in your home.

Overflow type

The water is level with the edges of the bowl and the floor of the room. Excess liquid goes through the grates into overflow trays and then enters the filtration system. The construction of an overflow type pool is 1.5-2 times more expensive than the construction of a skimmer type pool.

Sliding pavilions

Sliding covers allow you to use the pool regardless of weather conditions , even when the swimming season is already closed for open reservoirs. For example, pavilions made of polycarbonate accumulate solar energy and retain heat in the pool for a long time, like a greenhouse. They protect the pool water from debris blown by strong winds, and you from excess sun. Under such protection of the pavilion, you can spend quite a lot of time in nature, reading a book or playing with your children. Sections of the pavilion's arches slide in and out like a telescope. You can choose which part of the pool to leave open and which to cover.

If we consider sliding systems, they either slide on rails mounted on the formwork, or they work as part of a roller mechanism. In case of windy weather, the roller mechanism is attached to the ground. Durable and incredibly lightweight carbonate and aluminum extrusions provide 100% protection in inclement weather. Thanks to the presence of a rail mechanism and the mobility of the sections, opening the pool is completely easy. Caring for sliding pavilions is quite simple and does not require much effort.

Pool bowl finishing

To finish the container, you can use PVC film, ceramic tiles, and smalt. The film is sold in rolls, it is cut based on the shape and size of the bowl, and welded with hot air. Types: sealed liner, film with two layers of PVC and a polyester layer, butyl rubber membrane without reinforcement.

Ceramic tiles and mosaics come in a wide variety of colors and are used to create complex designs. Mosaic differs from tiles in that it can be mounted on round and other curved surfaces.

Trampoline-type protective covers

Tent trampoline pool cover LOOPLOC (USA) is an ideal choice for owners of outdoor pools of any shape. This type of cover is made of durable artificial fabric that can withstand heavy loads and guarantees 100% protection of the pool from contamination in winter.

To install the awning, a reliable fastening system is used, which allows you to install this cover without the help of specialists. A distinctive feature of this manufacturer is the choice of fabric colors - 6 shades will make it possible to choose the color of the awning to match the color of the area around the pool.

How to install a canopy over a polycarbonate pool

In principle, the design itself is no different from a regular canopy. These are all the same racks, tied along the upper level, on which the rafter legs are laid. The entire structure is made of a metal profile, preferably a profile pipe.

  • In the corners of the structure holes are dug into which racks made of profiled pipes are inserted, where they are filled with concrete mortar. Before installation, it is recommended to cover the lower parts of the racks with bitumen mastic as waterproofing. And one more mandatory condition - all racks at the upper ends must be located in the same horizontal plane. If the pool is large, then you need to install intermediate rack elements.
  • The support pillars are tied together with the same profile pipe.
  • Arches are made from the same material as all other elements. The bend is chosen at the discretion of the customer.
  • Arches are every meter, because the width of cellular polycarbonate is 2.1 m. That is, three arched rafters (trusses) are laid under each sheet: one in the middle, two at the edges. Adjacent polycarbonate panels must be joined at the rafter legs.
  • tightened together with crossbars from the same pipe.

Scheme of laying polycarbonate on the shelter structure Source bouw.ru

  • The so-called connecting profile , it is called the H-profile. It is attached to the profile pipe with metal screws.
  • Install one polycarbonate sheet at the edge of the hinged structure, inserting one side of it into the H-profile. They are fastened to the installed crossbars with roofing screws with a rubber gasket.
  • Install the second sheet by inserting its edge into another groove of the H-profile. This sheet is also attached to the crossbars with self-tapping screws.
  • When the entire structure is assembled, the rear side edges of the polycarbonate are covered with a special profile .

This is how the simplest pool roof is installed.

Lighting

Lighting plays a big role in the interior of swimming pools in private homes, which is used to create interesting effects and a cozy atmosphere. In a room intended for a home pool, you can install moisture-proof chandeliers with LEDs and halogen lamps.

Fiber optic lighting is gaining popularity, with the help of which:

  • illuminate areas of the room;
  • create the effect of a starry sky and northern lights .

Product installation procedure

The procedure for installing protective covers should be familiar to every pool owner.

Awning

Installing an awning is the most labor-intensive procedure. Most of the paintings have to be placed manually, which requires the participation of one or two assistants.

Procedure:

  • the canvas is laid from the end of the bowl (or from one edge if it is round);
  • two people take hold of the edge of the canvas from different sides of the bowl and simultaneously pull it, trying not to make folds or distortions;
  • when the entire area is covered, the cover is leveled again and secured with cables.

Sometimes the participation of a third person is required to straighten the canvas and prevent it from overturning the sides of the frame pool.

Dome

The dome is installed in accordance with the instructions. As a rule, folding models are installed in the following order:

  1. The folded frame is placed in the right place.
  2. The frame elements are straightened and moved into working position. It is fixed using special elements.
  3. If the canvas is installed separately, it is laid and secured.

Installing a folding canopy is no more difficult than installing a camping tent. The main thing is to act carefully and not damage the transparent film.

Pavilion

The pavilion is a permanent structure . In order to cover the pool, you need to move the movable sections so that they hide the entire area of the bowl.

This is a simple procedure, and on large structures it is also automated - when you press a button, the sections are moved using servos and stop at specified positions.

Generalization on the topic

In addition to the aspects mentioned in the article when equipping a swimming pool in a private home, it is necessary to take care of disinfectant, filter systems, filtration and heating devices, stairs and other devices and interior elements to create comfortable and safe conditions.

Involving specialists and professional teams in the design and construction of an artificial reservoir will help reduce the time of construction and arrangement of the pool, as well as obtain the desired result.

Pneumatic (inflatable) domes

Pneumatic domes are the most affordable of all roof-shaped structures . Inflatable structures have a simple design and are easy to install. The fans regulate the air flow into the vinyl bag, and once the canopy reaches its maximum value, the air pressure continues to maintain it in an inflated state. Doors with zippers are equipped with transparent screened windows. Removing such a coating is not at all difficult; to do this, just turn the switch on the fan.

As a result, the structure instantly deflates, and for ease of storage it can be rolled up at your discretion. Despite the fact that inflatable structures serve their owners well, one should not forget about their service life, because such shelters are very susceptible to frequency of use and the wearing influence of weather. The fabric of the inflatable dome has a special coating against UV radiation, but it is inferior in service life to permanent structures.

§ Automated pool drainage systems.

When the ventilation system cannot cope with the removal of moist air from the room, to maintain an optimal microclimate in the pool, automatic dehumidifiers are additionally used, which are equipped with built-in or remote sensors and a timer. They can be floor-mounted, wall-mounted (designed for an area of up to 20 sq. m.) or channel (for indoor pools up to 40 sq. m. in area). Separate use of these devices is impractical, because - although it is possible to eliminate moisture - there is no air circulation, which is bad for enclosed spaces. The most successful option is a combination of supply and exhaust ventilation and a dehumidification system. But such a solution is not cheap.

The operating principle of dehumidifiers is as follows. A powerful fan sucks in moisture-rich air. Passing through the heat exchanger, it cools until condensation forms, which is subsequently removed into the sewer. Next, after preheating, the dried air is supplied back to the room. That's the whole principle.

Using special tables, the required equipment power is found, which varies from 60 to 900 W. Productivity is determined by the amount of condensate removed, which for household devices is 10-100 l/day. The number and location of drying installations are determined by the calculation method, taking into account the area of the water surface (m2).

↑ Compact wall-mounted or floor-mounted dehumidifiers help maintain optimal moisture levels. To prevent condensation from forming on the windows, dehumidifiers are installed near them.

These devices are placed directly in the room with the pool or in the equipment room, for which air ducts are provided. To avoid short circuits they are grounded. As you can see, drainage is an important part of swimming pool operation.

Ventilation equipment is quite widely represented on the domestic market. Depending on the needs of customers, you can choose the most optimal solution for each specific case. This can be a supply and exhaust system, for example, EPVS-200 (Electrolux, Sweden, price - $550), Eco-V (LG, Korea, price - $2400), supplemented with dehumidifiers, for example, Dantherm (Denmark, from $1300), Neoclima (Greece, price from $2000) or a system with three-stage heat recovery designed for dehumidification and ventilation, for example, Aquavent DPH-WP (Frivent, Austria), or an installation with the possibility of heating, humidification and ventilation, for example, ThermoCond (Menerga, Germany ).

How to prepare an inflatable pool for winter

If you want the inflatable pool purchased this year to serve you for more than one season, you will definitely have to drain the water and put the tank away for winter storage. How to do this?

1. Drain the water. From small pools it is drained through the side or removed using special hoses. Large pools usually have special drain valves. However, they are almost always located just above the bottom level, so the remaining water will have to be scooped out manually in any case.

2. Wash the pool bowl thoroughly. For these purposes, it is best to use a soft sponge and a product recommended by the manufacturer. Don't forget to wash the awning and the sheet on which the pool stood.

3. Check the pool for damage. Soap or shower gel with a neutral reaction will help to detect the puncture site. When washing, apply soapy water to the surface. If there is a hole in the canvas, a small soap bubble will form right above it. Mark the locations of damage.

4. Wait until the bowl is completely dry. A soft, dry cloth, such as a microfiber cloth, will help remove any remaining water in the folds.

5. Rinse and disinfect (according to the instructions!) all removable mechanisms - valves, hoses, etc. Dry thoroughly and label the parts so you don't lose anything. Place all accessories in a separate box and store them in a dry and warm place.

6. Carefully deflate the pool. If the pool is large, it makes sense to use a special pump. Strong air pressure can damage the material from which the walls of the pool are made, so you need to release the air slowly.

7. Patch punctures. If you've used up the repair kit that came with your pool, use a repair kit for bicycle or car tubes. If you don’t have one at hand, seal the hole with a patch made from an old inflatable toy, circle or mattress.

To repair an inflatable pool, prepare a piece of film of the appropriate size. First, degrease the patch and the area around the hole with alcohol, wait until it dries completely. Apply a little glue (for example, Moment-Crystal) to the puncture area and patch, wait 5-10 seconds. Apply the patch to the crack, and then place the sealed area under the press for 12 hours (unless otherwise specified in the instructions).

8. Fold the pool. Do this carefully, avoiding the formation of unnecessary folds. To prevent the walls of the structure from sticking together during storage, sprinkle them with talcum powder.

9. Place the folded pool in a box or bag and place it in a dry and dark place where the temperature specified in the factory instructions is constantly maintained.

  • Swimming pool at the dacha - all the pros and cons

    What difficulties await those who are planning to set up a swimming pool at their dacha? What are more advantages or disadvantages in this matter?

To save money

You can save on building materials during the construction of a swimming pool inside your home. For example, instead of expensive polypropylene, you can use hydrofilm. A durable film is applied to the erected frame and strengthened - first on the bottom, then on the side of the pool, leaving holes for filling and draining water, filtration, and cleaning. We coat the joints and top parts with sealants. Ceramic tiles are also cost-effective; porcelain stoneware; glass mosaic. If you want to save money and a country style suits your pool, you can line the walls and floor around the bowl with clapboard or weathered wooden slabs - waterproof and not subject to changes in humidity and temperature.

Advantages of having a swimming pool in your home

Agree, it’s so nice to enjoy swimming in a warm pool when there is winter cold and snow outside, or to plunge into cool water in the hot summer. In addition to pleasure and excellent relaxation, having your own pool is also good for your health. Admittedly, you don't always want to sweat in the gym and leave all your strength there. Sometimes you just want to relax, swim in clear water. Swimming perfectly strengthens the body and nervous system . If someone has small children, there is no need to go out of town to the nearest body of water, but you can easily launch the kids into shallow water specially provided for this. In addition, there is no need to take your child to a public pool, wasting your time; now swimming will be possible without leaving home.

A couple of swimming lanes will be useful for both adults and children. The pool in the house can safely be called a place of relaxation. Near the water, a person can relax after a busy day of work, indulge in his thoughts, and a state of peace and mental balance will return to him.

Stages of construction work

The construction of an indoor version of the pool is a complex multi-stage process. Compliance with many technological subtleties leads to the long-awaited result. The location and purpose of the pool, as well as various technical aspects (type of water exchange, method of water disinfection) play an important role. The whole process is divided into several stages.

  1. Engineering-geological study of the land plot (freezing depth, groundwater level and other criteria).
  2. Creation of a project with calculation of important technical details and equipment costs.
  3. Preparatory work (clearing the area, digging a pit).
  4. Construction and finishing of the bowl.
  5. Frame installation.
  6. Equipment installation and commissioning.

How much does it cost to build an indoor pool?

To calculate the full cost of constructing a closed-type option, you must have the following information:

  • Shape, dimensions and volume of the bowl of the future structure;
  • Necessary equipment and choice of decorative finishes;
  • The purpose of the pool is home, sports, play, for water treatments;
  • The presence of an underwater lighting system, additional equipment such as a jacuzzi or “waterfall”, a slide or a stage for diving;
  • Specifics of the frame of the building covering the pool area.

You can find out prices for turnkey indoor pools from our manager. Our specialists will advise you on the cost and timing of the project.

What is the importance of waterproofing when building a swimming pool?

Waterproofing is most important when constructing a hydraulic structure such as an indoor pool. Reinforced concrete structures themselves are not a barrier to water. Since water exerts strong loads on the walls of the pool, this, coupled with temperature changes, will certainly lead to the formation of microcracks. Through them, water can seep under the foundation, wash it away and gradually destroy it. If you are pouring a concrete bowl yourself, then use only very high-quality, high-strength, high-grade Portland cement. The inside and outside of the bowl walls must be treated with special polymer mastics and additional layers of penetrating waterproofing, which can clog the pores of concrete and create a waterproof polymer film on the surface of the walls. Great importance should be attached to gluing the seams, joints and corners of the bowl.

Pool shape and size

Existing technologies make it possible to create pools of any size and shape, but it must correspond to its main purpose and perform the specified functions.

In order to correctly determine the width, depth and shape of the tank, it is necessary to take into account:

  • the main direction of its use;
  • the number of people for which it is designed;
  • swimming skills of users and their age group.

The swimming pool must be spacious enough and have a depth of at least 1.6 meters. Hydromassage SPA should not be made large; a tank with a volume of 6-8 meters will be sufficient for its arrangement.

The pool must be provided with paths and steps. For older people, it is advisable to provide special descents equipped with handrails and holders.
