Failure of heating system units usually occurs at the most inopportune moment. At first glance, a gas boiler is a very complex device that can only be repaired by a trained gas service technician with experience, knowledge and manufacturer accreditations.

However, to quickly identify the cause, it is not necessary to study to become a gas technician. If an error occurs with an Ariston gas boiler, the system recognizes the problem and displays a fault code on the screen. In most cases, you can find a malfunction and adjust the heating yourself.

Error No. 101. Occurs when the coolant in the primary heat exchanger overheats and boils, when the temperature at the NTC1 sensor exceeds 102 °C.

This issue occurs in the following cases:

  • Excessive maximum pressure within the gas valve, resulting in excessive heating. This setting needs to be adjusted.
  • Low coolant movement speed. The problem may be caused by a clogged filter, the formation of restrictions from scale, or a breakdown of the built-in circulation pump. These problems need to be checked and corrected.
  • Failure of the temperature sensor. In this case, it needs to be replaced.

Error No. 102. Pressure sensor readings are outside the permitted range. This can be caused either by a problem with the pressure in the circuit or by a breakdown of the sensor itself.

The latter situation usually occurs as a result of wiring problems such as a short circuit or open circuit. It is necessary to ring the wire from the device to the central board.


You can ring the sensor itself with an ordinary tester. The resistance should be minimal - 1-2 Ohms. If it is missing at all, then the sensor will definitely have to be changed

Errors No. 103-107 occur at extreme values ​​of coolant temperature. The system reaction occurs when analyzing the temperature in two places - at the water supply to the circuit and at the return point:

  • № 103. 3 times within 4 minutes the rate of increase in the supply temperature exceeds 7 °C / sec.
  • № 104. An increase in one of the indicators by a value exceeding 20 °C per second was recorded.
  • № 105. The coolant supplied to the circuit is 55 °C hotter than the return flow. The problem was recorded 3 times in 4 minutes.
  • № 106. The return temperature is 10 °C higher than the supply temperature. Recorded 3 times within 4 minutes.
  • № 107. The return temperature is 30 °C higher than the supply temperature. Recorded once.

Considering that the temperature sensor has a simple design and, in fact, there is nothing to break, all that remains is to identify and eliminate the problem with insufficient coolant movement.

It may be caused by the following:

  • Airiness of the heat exchanger or heating circuit. You may have to check the entire route for traffic jams.
  • Filter clogged. This part needs to be cleaned or replaced.
  • Pump fault. Replacement or repair of the device.

Error No. 108 is displayed according to the readings of the minimum pressure switch. It can be caused by the same reasons that are typical for errors No. 103-107. In addition, there may be a breakdown of the sensor or the wiring to it, as well as depressurization of the circuit and partial leakage of water.

Error No. 109 occurs when there is a problem with excess pressure - more than 3 Bar. This can happen if the make-up valve is not completely closed. For further work, it is necessary to drain some of the water to reduce the pressure in the circuit.

Error No. 110. Failure or simple wear of the temperature sensor. First of all, you need to check the contacts and integrity of the wire. If they are ok, then you will have to replace the sensor itself.

Error No. 111 occurs when the pressure in the circuit is below the permissible level. The factory settings for this parameter for Ariston boilers are 0.4 Bar. The sensor may be damaged or water may leak from the circuit.

Error No. 112. Problem with the return temperature sensor. You need to check its contacts or replace the sensor.

Error No. 114. Problem with the outside temperature sensor. You need to check its contacts or replace the sensor.

Error No. 116. Triggering (opening) of the thermostat for the safe operation of the heated floor. You need to close jumper TA2 on the main board. If the operation occurs again, then there are problems in the underfloor heating system. Usually this is the presence of an air lock.

Error No. 117. On some older models, there is control of the difference in temperature values ​​at the inlet and outlet 8 seconds after the start of operation. The boiler will stop if the heating does not start. Possible problems and ways to solve them are the same as for errors No. 103-107.


A clogged water filter causes problems with water circulation. This leads to boiler shutdowns and also has a bad effect on the pump.

Sometimes the indicator shows codes 1P1 – 1P4. These are not errors, but warnings that signal one-time sharp temperature changes. Such effects sometimes arise due to hydrodynamic processes characteristic of flowing hot liquid in a narrow stream. You shouldn't pay attention to them.

Error No. 201. Problem with the power supply to the temperature sensor - open or short circuit. It is necessary to eliminate the breakdown of the electrical wiring.

Errors No. 202-205 are related to the operation of the sensors. When the signal stops coming from them or it behaves unpredictably (sudden jumps in data), then these errors are triggered:

  • № 202. Problem with the boiler or solar system sensor.
  • № 203. Problem with NTC temperature sensor.
  • № 204-205. There is a problem with the temperature sensor that records the operating values ​​of the solar collector.

Error No. 206. Problem with the cold water temperature sensor in the solar system. The solution is the same as for errors No. 204-205.

Error No. 207. Overheating of the solar thermostat. This may be caused by solar energy not being used to heat the water. Then the collector must be turned off. This malfunction can also occur when the thermostat breaks down. In this case, it will need to be replaced.

Error (warning) No. 208. Insufficient heating in the solar circuit. There is a risk of the coolant freezing. Turns on when the anti-freeze function is activated. Part of the energy from the gas will be used to heat the collector.

There may be a problem with the thermostat or its contacts.

Other breakdowns

In addition to those described above, the following codes may appear:

  • 608 - the system generates this error when the fan starts, but the pressure switch does not work.
  • H45 - the last two digits may change.
    The reason lies in the NTSc sensor, there is no hot water at the outlet, the safety valve is leaking. If there is no hot water, but the heating system is working, most likely the water flow sensor is faulty or clogged with debris. Another reason may be that the turbine blades have worked too hard, stuck to the housing, this can interfere with rotation, replace the blades or the turbine itself.
  • The second reason in this situation may be the NTC sensor; to check its functionality, measure the resistance at its contacts with a multimeter; if it is unstable, replace the sensor with a new one. If the safety valve is leaking, the gaskets may be worn out, replace them.

    How to determine the error code if the device does not have a display or does not have a dial, such as on the Ariston BS II 24FF model? This device is equipped with indicator lights, thanks to which you can determine the breakdown. So, for example, if the 90 indicator and the crossed out water drop icon are on, this means that the boiler has overheated and is blocked. To eliminate this, you need to check the pressure switch and its connection to the board.

    Electronics failures (error 3**)

    Such complex modern equipment as gas boilers are equipped with electronics for automatic operation and response to different situations. Control boards can fail as a result of aging, power surges, excessive humidity, or mechanical damage.

    Error No. 301. Problems with the EEPROM board (non-volatile memory) of the display. If such a message appears, you need to check whether the EEPROM key is installed correctly on the motherboard. This must be done as described in the user manual for the corresponding model.

    If the key works correctly, then you need to check the contacts of the cable from the motherboard to the display board. There may also be a problem with the LCD screen itself. Then it will have to be replaced.

    Error #302 is a special case of the previous problem. Both boards pass the test, but the connection between them is unstable.     Error No. 303: Main board faulty. Rebooting usually does not help, but sometimes it is enough to turn off the boiler from the network, wait and turn it on again (this is the first sign of aging capacitors). If this problem becomes regular, the board will have to be replaced.

    Error #304: More than 5 reboots in the last 15 minutes. Talks about the frequency of problems that arise. You need to turn off the boiler, wait a while and turn it on again. You should monitor it for some time to identify the type of warnings if they occur again.

    Error No. 305. Program crash. You need to let the boiler stand off for a while. If the problem persists, you will have to reflash the board. This must be done at a service center.

    Error #306 : Problem with the EEPROM key. The boiler needs to be restarted. If the error repeats, you will have to change the board.

    Error No. 307. Problem with the Hall sensor. Either the sensor itself is faulty, or there is a problem on the motherboard.

    Error No. 308. The combustion chamber type is incorrectly set. You need to check the installed combustion chamber type in the menu. If the problem is not resolved, then the EEPROM key may be installed incorrectly or the motherboard may be faulty.

    Exceeding the maximum permissible temperature in the water heating tank, which happens when the thermostat itself malfunctions, as well as a sharp decrease in water pressure in the system.
    The boiler is blocked, after which you can try to restart it. Frequent repetitions of this error are a signal that it is necessary to test the thermostat board and replace it if necessary. Problems in this category can arise both when there is a power surge in the network or when the contacts of working elements deteriorate.

    Flame and ignition control (errors 5**)

    Problems can arise in both open and closed combustion chambers. Although it must be admitted that there are few types of faults here compared to other components of a gas boiler.

    Error No. 501. No flame when igniting.

    This situation can happen for many reasons:

    • No gas. You need to check the supply tap. It must be open.
    • The system will not turn on if the voltage between the neutral and the grounding conductor is more than 10 V. The current leakage must be eliminated.
    • The ionization electrode has failed. Before changing it, you need to check the quality of the connection to the motherboard.
    • The power of smooth ignition has lost. You need to adjust this parameter according to the instructions for the specific model.
    • Main control board faulty.

    Error No. 502 : Registration of flame before activating the gas valve. It often occurs in the absence of a ground loop. If it is made according to the standard, then you need to perform the same steps as for error No. 309.


    If the house did not have grounding, then it will have to be done for a gas boiler. Moreover, according to all the rules, otherwise the protective mechanisms will block the heating from starting

    Error No. 504. Flame loss on the burner if it occurs at least 10 times during one cycle. It is necessary to check the gas pressure, the exhaust of combustion products and the gas valve.

    It is characterized by a sharp decrease in pressure in the heating system, which is recorded on the pressure gauge. In this case, the boiler operation stops.

    There are several reasons:

    1. Lack of water in the expansion tank - the liquid has evaporated and the person did not notice.
    2. The water left through the supply system - the person forgot to close the water supply tap, and when the water supply was turned off, the water left the heating system automatically.
    3. Water leakage directly in the heating system - pipes are leaking at soldering or twisting points.

    What can be done in such a situation?

    1. First, check the water level in the expansion tank, add if it is below normal. Do the same procedure if your water intake into the heating system is from a central water supply, then close the tap tightly.
    2. Secondly, check if your pipes and radiators are leaking. If there is a leak, it must be repaired.

    Air supply and flue gas removal (errors 6**)

    The system for supplying air and removing flue gases generated during the operation of a gas boiler can be natural or forced. Therefore, some errors may not occur for different devices. But we'll look at them all.

    Error No. 601. The draft thermostat is triggered when the contact is broken or the smoke exhaust thermostat is internally damaged. It is also possible that the air vent system is clogged.

    Error No. 602. The same thing, only for VMC type combustion chambers.

    Error No. 604. The Hall sensor is faulty (it needs to be replaced) or the speed of the fan blades is low (it needs to be cleaned or also replaced).

    Error No. 607. The contacts of the controlling pneumatic relay were closed before the fan turned on. This detail confirms that there is sufficient draft before ignition. To eliminate early closure, you need to carefully remove the pneumatic relay and blow out its tubes, removing dirt or condensation. If this does not help, the part will have to be replaced.

    Causes of error 6р1

    • Signal circuit defects. Error 6р1 occurs when there is no “visibility” between the EPU and the traction sensor. Check the lines for reliable contacts, absence of short circuits, breaks, or melted insulation.

    • The tubes are clogged. Condensation or dust that came from the street through the filter. Blow it out, and error 6р1 will disappear.
    • Loose fitting of tubes on signal ports. Weakening and cracks in the polymer that appear during operation of the Ariston boiler lead to error 6p1. The problem is eliminated by heat-shrinkable material, a high-temperature sealant.
    • Deformation of plastic. Microcracks and tube breaks (CONDENSATE TRAP according to Ariston specifications) are reflected in the traction. The code is cleared by replacing the problematic part.

    1. Damage to the condensate trap. It is located above the combustion chamber and is exposed to thermal effects. Touching its upper part leads to melting of the plastic, the tightness of the air supply channel to the draft relay of the Ariston boiler is lost. As a result, error 6р1.
    2. Sensor malfunction. Burning of the MV contacts leads to a break in the signal circuit - the ED will not see the message that the boiler is ready for ignition and generates error 6р1. The solution is to replace the traction relay. The loss of elasticity of the membrane is not critical - it is not difficult to revive the device: remove it, tap it on a hard surface. The microparticles adhering to the rubber products will fall and the Ariston boiler will start. This method of eliminating the error is a temporary measure: the relay should be replaced.
    3. Fan problem. It turns on, but does not develop speed. The forced draft is insufficient, error 6р1 is displayed. Reasons: contamination of the blades, making it difficult to rotate the shaft (cleaning is required) or interturn short circuit of the winding. The malfunction cannot be eliminated - the fan must be replaced.

    Error #72X. Overheating has been detected in zone X. First of all, you need to check the operation of the thermostat responsible for this area. It may simply be a loose contact or a broken unit. If it works correctly, then you need to change the settings.

    Error No. 750. Hydraulic circuit error. The correct type of hydraulic module connected must be set (menu parameter 720). If there is no error here, then the problem is in the settings of the circuit itself.

    The error is due to the coolant heating too quickly, which can be caused by the following reasons:

    • airiness of batteries;
    • thermostat malfunction;
    • problems with the board.

    If such an error occurs, you can try to bleed air from all existing batteries. In most cases, this will fix the problem. If after such actions the code continues to be displayed on the display, then the problem is deeper and cannot be done without the help of specialists.

    When igniting, there is no flame or the flame disappears quickly. There are several reasons:

    1. There is no gas supply, the valve on the pipe is closed.
    2. The ionization electrode has oxidized or moved away from the board.

If the wind rose is not taken into account and the proper measures are not taken, the Ariston boiler simply blows out in gusts. Hence the error 601.     The 307th fault code is displayed on the display of Ariston boilers of the Clas, Genus and Egis + modifications. The reason is electronics failures: the instructions indicate an internal error on the board. It manifests itself in different ways: during the initial start-up of the unit, when dispensing hot water, and periodically during the operation of the boiler. There is no need to rush to buy a new EPU, given the cost of the unit.     Error 501 appears when there is no burner flame and is typical for all Ariston modifications. Its presence is monitored by an ionization sensor installed in the combustion chamber. There are several factors that trigger the appearance of such code, although solving the problem is not difficult. Error 501 is generated by the boiler’s electronic board after the 3rd ignition attempt (at full power) with a negative result.

    What to do

    On a note. In Ariston boilers of the Class 24FF series, professionals note a factory defect - when pressing on Reset, the rod does not always reach the microswitch. If an attempt fails, it is better to restart directly from the control board (using the corresponding button).
