Installation of window sills is an important stage of construction, which simultaneously ensures comfort and safety in rooms for various functional purposes. Thanks to well-chosen geometric parameters and high-quality installation, the window sill board fully satisfies the required indicators for strength, reliability and durability, maintaining its original technological characteristics throughout the entire operational period.
Currently, concrete window sills are becoming increasingly popular because, in addition to their high strength and reliability, they are distinguished by a wide variety of geometry and textures to suit every taste.

What kind of window sill panel is there?
Plastic, from which windows and components for them are produced, is confidently displacing wood, artificial stone, and granite from the market. The reason is the benefits it has.
An integral part of the metal-plastic structure is the window sill, the overall dimensions of which do not always correspond to the window opening.
The width of the window sill is selected according to the individual parameters of the window structure and ranges from 10 to 80 cm. The maximum length of the panel is 6 m. The thickness of the PVC window sill is two centimeters. These dimensions are easily adjustable to suit different opening sizes.
Internal parapets give the room a complete look and also serve to decorate it. They make the room cozy in decorative terms, thanks to the palette of color shades. Can be used as separate shelves.
General requirements for this parameter
As such, there is no state standard regulating this distance. Some Soviet-era SNiPs, which designers sometimes refer to, establish the following requirements:
- In one room, the height of windows above the floor should be the same. A very reasonable requirement - this will give the room definition and harmony, and designing the walls will not be complicated in any way.
- The minimum distance that should be between the radiator and the window sill is 8 centimeters. Thus, it turns out that the average window height ranges from 70 to 90 centimeters, which completely suits the majority of owners under construction.
How are PVC window sills marked?
Thanks to the markings, we find out why a PVC window sill is intended and what its main characteristics are. For example, the marking number may indicate the dimensions of plastic window sills, their color, etc.
Marking occurs in accordance with the guest and based on the requirements that the guest places on the design of such products.
What must be indicated in the labeling:
- Types of the structure itself.
- The material from which the window finishing element is made. All main mixtures and impurities are also indicated here.
- The height of the window sill or its thickness. This indicator is very important when installing a window frame.
- The distance from one edge to the other, that is, the length as well as the width of the canvas.
- Design features of PVC boards.
- Requirements for installing PVC boards.
Product protrusion functions
The protrusion of the window sill may vary. There are practically invisible structures that do not stand out beyond the window opening; there are also wide, powerful window sills on which you can sit. The structure is needed to retain heat in the house; it can serve as additional support, for example, for installing flower pots.
You should choose a window sill carefully; it must match the design of the window, otherwise it may fail. Replacing a part without removing the glass unit is extremely problematic.
The importance of the gap between the wall and the battery
When installing radiators, it is important to create a distance between the heating device and the wall. The outer wall is constantly in contact with the surrounding air, causing significant cooling. When the battery is mounted on the inner surface without a gap, most of the heat will be spent on heating the wall material rather than the room. The low thermal insulation properties of concrete walls do not allow creating an optimal microclimate; about 70% of thermal energy will be wasted. By moving the heating system a short distance, air insulation will be created, increasing heating efficiency.
There are other reasons why it is necessary to create a gap according to the given standards:
- Creating a sufficient level of air mass circulation. If this condition is violated, part of the energy will be lost.
- When placed close to the wall, the device begins to heat up faster. As a result, the radiator may fail.
When installing heating devices, you must adhere to the following recommendations - the greater the radiator power, the wider the gap should be. Its specific dimensions are made up of two important parameters:
- Window sill width, niche dimensions. The possibility of creating distance depends on these individual characteristics.
- The power of the battery itself.
You can reduce the distance from the wall to the radiator by gluing foil heat-reflecting material to the wall. Then the gap can be 2.5-3 cm. In other cases, this value is approximately 6-8 cm.

Window sill in private houses
Private houses can be located in different parts of the country, so there are a huge number of possibilities for placing windows. Nowadays, some people get rid of walls altogether and install windows instead, getting a stunning view.
If the structure of the house or finances do not allow you to formalize this idea, you can try placing the window sill at the same level as the floor.
A good idea for private houses would be to install windows that will be located on two floors at once. If your house is located in places with a cold climate, building a balcony or veranda would be a good solution. To learn how to install the window sill to the desired height, watch this video:
For an attic or second floor, the landing should be about 90-100 cm. This height will provide a good view from the window and will keep the room warm.
The optimal location dimensions are presented in the following table:
In general, there are no standards for window placement. The location of the window sill board largely depends on the type of room and its functions.
Recommendations
Replacing heating elements yourself is often associated with a number of mistakes. How to avoid them and ensure high heat transfer of the system is indicated in the following recommendations:
- strong fastening of batteries is the key to long-term operation, therefore there should be no less than three fixation points;
- ensuring the correct horizontal level will eliminate the formation of “air jams”;
- regardless of the location of windows in corner apartments, all walls bordering the street must be equipped with radiators;
- creating a reflective screen on the wall side in the plane of the heating element will increase the useful thermal output;
- in a single-pipe wiring diagram, a bypass is installed between the pipes, in the form of a jumper between the inlet and outlet of the coolant, which will allow replacement or repair without shutting down the entire system;
- to calculate the number of heaters, taking into account that the formulas include a significant number of coefficients, it is better to use calculators on construction sites or contact specialists;
- In order to avoid conflicts with the management company when replacing central heating elements in an apartment, actions must be approved in the manner established by the collective agreement.
The main dimensions of PVC window sills: what role do they play?
When choosing a window sill, you should not save money, because often the need to replace the window sill may entail cosmetic repairs to the slopes, which will also require certain costs, especially since the price of a plastic window sill allows you to choose the best quality and most durable option.
Today you can purchase a window sill of any shape and size.
Checked! If you purchase a higher-quality window sill, the price of which will be 400-500 rubles more expensive than the cost of the bulk of goods, most likely you will not have to repair the window in the near future. And any, even the most minimal, repair will cost at least 1500-2500 rubles.
In any case, you need to take into account that even the most expensive plastic window sill is not designed to bear a lot of weight. For this reason, you should not plan to install a heavy aquarium, coffee machine or other large objects here. The main purpose of window sills is not so much practicality as aesthetic function. It is thanks to the window sill that the window will look more attractive, and the room will look organic and complete.
As for the window standard, the sizes mainly vary depending on the type and functional significance of the building. There are both products of traditional dimensions, which are often found in residential apartments, and windows of different shapes that require window sill modeling in accordance with certain requirements.
The window sill can be ordered in a traditional size or non-standard size
Among the advantages of PVC material, it is worth highlighting the ability to choose almost any color scheme, and many manufacturers also offer options that imitate wood, marble, granite, labradorite and other stones. Often the imitation looks so natural that it can only be distinguished from the original by touch.
To choose the correct size and thickness of the plastic window sill, you need to take into account the recesses left from the previous product after its replacement. Often, new window sills are 0.5-1.5 cm longer than old ones; the width can increase by 0.3-0.4 cm, because metal-plastic windows, compared to old wooden frames, are 4-5 cm thinner.
The size of the plastic PVC window sill should be 5-10 cm larger than the width of the niche in order to beautifully close the joints. It is important to remember that the structure should not block the heating devices, because this will disrupt the microclimate in the room. The maximum distance from the wall that the window sill above the radiator can protrude is 10 cm.
First of all, the size of the window sill is selected taking into account the window parameters
What are the sizes of plastic window sills?
As in the case of purchasing metal-plastic windows, it is better to place an order for individual production of a window sill (after taking and rechecking the necessary measurements). The size and price of a plastic window sill can vary even within the same multi-story building, because the dimensions of the window opening, depending on the floor and location of the apartment, can differ by 7-10 or even more centimeters. In addition, the depth of the window opening may also change, which will also affect the change in parameters.
Helpful advice! When purchasing, you should not rely on the window dimensions indicated in the product passport; it is better to take all the measurements again or invite a specialist from the company where you plan to order the product to do this.
As for the standard parameters, you can focus on the following numbers:
- Length – 405-600 cm. In most cases, products with a length of 6 m are delivered to retail outlets, and the finished product is cut to the required size on site.
- Width – 10-100 cm. The width change step is 5 cm. This allows you to choose the right size depending on the window parameters and the thickness of the wall partition.
- Thickness – 1.8-2.2 cm. It is the thickness of the window sill that largely affects the strength of the product and the period of operation.
The standard thickness of plastic window sills varies between 1.8-2.2 cm
The window sill is mounted, regardless of size, using a stand profile, which has a rectangular cross-section. Most often you can see that installation occurs at an angle of 90º relative to the plane of the window, although sometimes installation is performed at an angle. In this case, you need to maintain the correct proportions - 3 cm of slope for every 30 cm of the width of the product.
It is necessary to take into account that depending on the size of the plastic window sill, the price will change: the larger it is, the more expensive it will cost. You should know that there is a certain template for calculating costs. For example, if we consider that the average price of a product 10 cm wide is 200-250 rubles, then for every 10 cm the price will increase by the same amount. Thus, material 30 cm wide will cost approximately 750 rubles. When installing, you need to take into account that, most likely, you will need to additionally purchase a plug for the PVC window sill, the cost of which is 30-40 rubles.
To roughly calculate the price, you need to take the width of the window as a basis (for example, 39 cm), 5 cm will need to be added for installation - the total is 44 cm. The most suitable standard width is 45 cm, respectively, this indicator must be adhered to when determining the cost of the finished product .
Standard parameters for the sizes of plastic window sills
An important feature of a plastic product is its versatility, which allows installation in residential and work premises, including hotels, restaurants and medical facilities. Even at some industrial facilities it is permissible to use PVC window sills.
If you want something else
Sometimes even the most intricate design catalogs fail to satisfy the searcher. After all, the flight of your imagination is incomparable with someone else’s. But, unlike painting, architecture is much more demanding of the creator. She doesn't forgive mistakes. So no matter how broad the imagination, it is always worth thinking about the possibility or impossibility of practical application.
In the apartment
Many people want to see the distance between the floor and the window small. This is understandable, because it is in this case that the room will look extremely spacious. However, it is important to choose windows that will be strong enough if an adult accidentally falls on them.
Sometimes a room with windows in the form of portholes without window sills will be an interesting option. For example, in the style of an ocean liner. Here a distance of 1.5 meters or more is possible. It all depends on the size of the window. However, this is not typical for most homes and therefore requires assessment by an architect.
Some people prefer artistic chaos to orderliness and symmetry. For example, a combination of windows of different geometric shapes, including triangles and trapezoids. This is perhaps the most difficult option of all.
Sketch
Despite all the diversity, in the end, windows should ideally meet the standards of safety, lighting and creating a microclimate in the room. And, of course, it’s worth thinking about how convenient such windows will be.
For example, will it be convenient to use curtains and will it be possible to hang them at all? If you act rashly, an absurd result is possible, as in some photos on the Internet forum.
If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to install the standard option - a regular rectangular window. The height from the floor should be the recommended one or close to it. Such windows seem uninteresting at first glance, but there is one important nuance.
In the bedroom
When choosing a room design, it is important not to be guided by the first impression of a particular concept, but to look into the future. The variety of all kinds of geometric shapes, amazing the imagination, tires over time. At the same time, boring-looking ordinary windows will be perceived no worse over the years, but simply as a familiar element of the interior.
How to determine the required window sill dimensions
The long service life and quality of the window depend on the correct calculation and installation of this structure.
Initially, you should cut the workpiece to the required length and width.
Many people have probably wondered how wide the window sill should be? It is measured simply.
Measure the width of the window opening and add 6-10 cm (so that on each side the window sill protrudes beyond the slopes by at least 3 cm). Because it is unacceptable for the plastic corners and F profile to protrude beyond it. For example, for a meter-wide window you need a window sill of 110 cm, of which 2 cm will be spent on the light opening of the slopes and 8 cm on the allowances on the sides.
The window sill in the balcony block cuts into the wall on one side, and at the door it should protrude by 1 cm.
This is how we calculated the length.
Calculating the width is no more complicated. To prevent the glass from fogging up, the window sill is placed 2 cm below the window, and it should protrude by 5-7 cm. This is explained by the fact that a larger protrusion will block the access of heat from the battery, preventing the circulation of warm air, and its strength will also decrease. As a result, condensation will accumulate on the window, which will cause freezing. You should also measure the depth of the opening with a tape measure. Thus, it is necessary to add up all 3 values, the sum of which will become the width.
Having received the necessary calculations, we cut out the window sill from plastic. It is better to do this with a grinder or jigsaw. You cannot press a jigsaw against PVC, as it will leave marks. A regular saw can also be used, but the edges will not be perfectly smooth. This is not very scary; the nicks will be hidden by plastic covers placed on the end of the product.
It is more difficult to take measurements for non-standard structures, for example, in rounded walls, kitchen window sills and countertops.
Detailed instructions for installing and installing a plastic window sill can be found at the link. We also recommend that you read the article on how to install plastic windows yourself, while it is preferable to take into account the rules for installing windows according to GOST.
In this case, it is necessary to make the width of the window sill uneven. A standard set of tape measure and a sheet of paper will not allow you to make an accurate template. Specialists from the company where you will place the order will help with this, but it is better to take measurements with a tacheometer - more accurate geodetic equipment.
The product is almost ready. All that remains is to fit it under the opening. To do this, cut off the excess parts.
Please note that the sides of the window sill must be recessed into the wall.
Make small recesses in the wall with a puncher, attach the workpiece to the opening and mark the cutouts taking into account the recess. Now cut out the window sill and insert it into the intended place.

Height calculation
The distance between the radiator and the window sill must be at least 10 cm, regardless of what type of heating device is used. You also need to take into account the height of the battery itself. It is necessary to retreat 8 cm from the rear. The battery itself should rise above the floor by 10 cm, that is, when installing a window sill from the floor according to SNIP, you will need to retreat 70-80 cm.
An important role is also played by what the window sill protrusion will be : it can move significantly away from the wall or be invisible. If there is no radiator under the window, it is not necessary to meet any requirements, but if heating is present, the projection must be strictly regulated. The task of the window sill is to redirect heat flows. Without it, they will rise upward, and proper heating of the room will not occur, since some of the heat will evaporate and be distributed on the ceiling.
Poor convection can also be caused by a window sill that is too wide. It will not allow warm air to escape; as a result, condensation will begin to accumulate on the window, since the main air flows will go up, and some of them will get stuck under the window, heating the atmosphere. In this case, it is very important to calculate the distance from the window sill to the heating radiator, both in height and how much of a protrusion can be made. You can avoid the problem described above by using a slab that does not extend beyond the wall by more than 8 cm.
Tip: when calculating the dimensions, you need to take into account the level of the wall with decoration.
The best option is a solution in which no more than 10% of warm air will be retained in the window niche. To do this, the window sill should not protrude more than 6 cm beyond the radiator, but it should not be shorter than the heating device. If the design solution of the room requires the installation of non-standard wide structures, it is necessary to provide ventilation holes in them. Their size must be sufficient for proper air circulation.
The distance between the window sill and the heating radiator will remain standard in this case. As for the thickness of the structure, it usually does not exceed 4 cm, but this indicator is not a standard. A thinner slab has a risk of deformation caused by warm air currents. The thicker one has more mass and costs more. If such structures are not provided for by the design plan, there is no point in installing them. Detailed instructions for installing a window sill.
Is clearance necessary?
Some window owners believe that the window sill extends deep under the window frame, but this is not the case. The distance between the window and the window sill is approximately 10 mm. Otherwise, the structure may become deformed. The fact is that under the influence of warm air, the material from which the slab is made expands. The gap is left so that the structure can take the desired shape without being damaged. Visually, this technique is invisible.
How to position the curtain?
The distance of the window sill curtain also plays a role. In order for the curtains to move without clinging, without leaving marks on them, and for warm air to circulate freely, the distance must be at least 5 cm.
Conclusion: it is not always possible to apply the standard distance from the floor, radiator, curtains to the window sill, but you can find a way out by observing certain requirements.
Dimensions of plastic window sills: why some prefer wide products
Some believe that window sills are practically invisible in the room, but most designers would categorically disagree with such a statement, because even the most unsuccessful interior can be refreshed with the help of a window sill. Moreover, considering that modern products are much more interesting and functional than outdated options.
If the thickness of PVC window sills affects their strength, then the width determines the functional purpose. For example, a narrow space can accommodate a maximum of several flower pots, vases or some other accessories, but a wide option significantly expands the possibilities and allows you to experiment. The large width of the plastic window sill helps to take a fresh look at the arrangement of the room, especially if the structure is located quite close to the surface of the floor covering.
A wide window sill can be turned into a functional area
Unusual ideas that allow you to play up a product that has a large width:
- Sleeping place under the window. It is the window sill-bed that is considered the most functional and practical solution. It is especially important to organize this option in the case when the housing has tall and voluminous windows.
- Desktop. It is not necessary that it be a desk; in a studio apartment, it is very important to make the window sill a functional part of the kitchen space.
- A place to store books. The mini-library can be supplemented with a nearby table and lighting fixture.

If you have the idea of organizing a plastic window sill that is large in width, you need to select the dimensions wisely, especially with regard to thickness. A large product will not only be subject to pressure itself, but will also have an impact on the entire window opening. In this case, preference should be given to the maximum thickness.
When choosing a wide option, you need to take into account some negative points:
- Obstructing natural air flows. A wide PVC window sill for a window disrupts the flow of heat from the battery, which causes fogging of the windows and the appearance of condensation, especially in the lower part of the glass unit.
- The need for additional ventilation. In order not to interfere with normal air circulation, it is recommended to install ventilation grilles to allow warm air to rise freely.
- Carrying out measures to increase strength characteristics. If the space under the window will be used for sitting or as a sleeping place, you need to purchase a thicker version of the product, which will cost more than standard analogues.

Application area
The main feature of a plastic window sill is that it can be used in residential premises, offices, hotel complexes, educational, medical and some industrial institutions. Such a wide range of distribution is explained by high performance characteristics, excellent colors and excellent strength properties.
Depending on the size, there are two types of window sill blocks that are used in apartments:
- For panel structures, window sills with a width of 200-300 mm are used.
- For brick ones - 500-600 mm wide.
A more unique area of application are plastic bar counters and tabletops.
Standard width and length of plastic window sill
These structures are produced in standard fabric, and are cut to the required size at the installation site. Owners of old houses with non-standard sizes of products can order the required length and width of the profile.
What are the sizes of window sills for plastic windows?
The length of standard window sills starts from 4 and ends at 6 m. The width of a plastic window sill is from 10 cm to 1 m, increments of 5 cm. The most popular width is 11-60 cm, depending on the depth of the opening. The thickness varies from 1.8 to 2.2 cm, but usually it is 2 cm. Visually, the width of the PVC window sill increases due to the 4 cm edging of the capino.

Advice from professionals
If all the windows on the facade are to be replaced, then everything must be measured at once. Their height may be almost the same, but their width may differ. For manufacturing, you need to take the smallest value of the measured window.
To determine the location for installing the window unit, the thickness of the wall must be known. From the inside, the structure should be mounted to a depth equal to 2/3 of the width of the wall, while you can take into account the width of the external insulation and install it further.
If you add 5 cm to the width of the opening for the bend and 4 cm for the protrusion, then the required value of the drainage width will be known. If the wall is sheathed, then this thickness must also be taken into account. The width of the slopes is measured only after installing the window unit.
Ventilation grill installation
You will need:
- ventilation grates
- silicone
- milling machine
- construction tape
Window sills with ventilation grilles are glued using silicone. To make a grille to your size, you will need a milling machine. During installation, it is necessary to take into account the distance between the installation of consoles - in the area of the grille, consoles should be installed up to 30 mm to the edge of the window sill.
Before installing the grille, you need to choose a color. Ventilation grilles installed in the window sill (can be made of stainless steel, brass or plastic) may well blend in with it, or, conversely, stand out strongly. Clients sometimes like this contrast more than the usual color combination, and fits perfectly into the interior of the room.
Advantages of plastic
When choosing a material for an internal parapet, two criteria are taken into account:
- its service life;
- wear resistance.
According to these indicators, plastic has its benefits:
- not exposed to microorganisms;
- does not deform under the influence of moisture;
- Pests will not be able to settle in the stove.
These advantages increase the service life of the material. In addition, it does not crack, does not dry out and is resistant to temperature changes. The plastic plate is made with a ready-made shade and does not lose its color when exposed to sunlight.
The material has a dense texture, as a result of which it is resistant to mechanical damage, dirt and moisture absorption. Caring for a plastic board is easy. It is enough to wipe the surface with a damp cloth several times a month.
Another advantage of the material is its heat-insulating qualities. It retains warm air inside the room without letting it out. Through the window sill cracks, cold air practically does not enter the room.
Plastic does not rot and is resistant to fire. At individual request, the surface is covered with a special film that imitates wood, artificial stone or granite. This allows you to diversify the overall look of the room.
The slabs have several types of coating:
- Melamine . The technology involves applying seven layers of coating based on polymer resins. This type of coating promotes moisture resistance, increases temperature characteristics and allows you to create any shape of the window sill.
- PVC film. Material with a low price, resistant to fire and ultraviolet radiation.
- Acrylic . This is an innovative material, the main advantage of which is the color range of the surface of the panels. Acrylic film can withstand stronger mechanical loads. The surface does not scratch, remaining smooth and even.
Plastic boards are equally used in residential buildings and in office buildings, government institutions, shopping and entertainment complexes, and hotels.
How are window sills marked?
When selling window sills, the manufacturer must provide all important information about the product. This information is contained in the marking, which, according to GOST, should consist of the following items:
- Date of manufacture of the product;
- Type of profile structure;
- Window sill dimensions (height, width, length);
- The main material from which the product is made, and what additives were used in production;
- Installation recommendations;
- Individual features of the product;

Before purchasing, it is recommended to check not only the presence of markings, but also ask the seller for quality certificates. Today, some entrepreneurs purchase extruders and use low-quality recyclable materials with impurities that are unacceptable by standards for the production of window sills. As a result, it is necessary to personally verify the quality of the purchased products.
Non-standard option for combining materials
Requirements for safety, environmental friendliness, and the absence of toxic elements in plastic alloys prompted manufacturers to come up with an unusual idea. They began to add a wood component to the PVC mass. Combining materials increases strength and resistance to impacts and deformation, and reduces weight. The scope of application is quite wide: kindergarten, school, hospital and all institutions where safety and low toxicity are needed. Regarding the price, everything is affordable, the outer surface is made of wood and tinted brown. If the customer wants his own color scheme, then film lamination will help create the ideal option.
Connection diagrams
There are several radiator connection diagrams that comply with the requirements and standards of GOST and SNiP. They are represented by the following varieties:
- Lateral connection. Characterized by maximum heat transfer. With this connection, the input is made from the top of the battery, and the output is from the bottom on the same side. This is the most popular connection diagram.
- Diagonal connection. Produced with significant system dimensions. Water enters the radiator through the top and is discharged from the bottom on the opposite side.
- Lower connection or “Leningradka”. It is produced in small one- and two-story houses, as well as when installing pipes hidden under the floor. The efficiency of such a system is 5-15% lower than with a lateral connection.
Children's
For children, the window sill board is usually mounted at a distance of 0.7 m from the floor base. Experts advise using a wide model to ensure sufficient lighting inside the room. In addition, it is important to equip the window with a reliable safety net.
Successful combination of the window sill with the table guarantees long-term lighting for the nursery. In addition, the window structure is often supplemented with ordinary curtains, as well as an opening blocking device.
A window sill table allows you to save space in a small children's room; its height should be about 70 cm Source pdnr.ru
Installation window window
Sequential installation - how to properly install a PVC window frame
Most of the work is related to the preparation, calculations and devices of the substrate. Once everything is ready, installing the window shelf will literally be a few minutes plus half an hour to fix it.
Installation and fastening is carried out using the following technology:
- The window frame is inserted into the window opening and slowly moved into the window frame.
- When the edge of the work being processed approaches the insertion point in the frame, which starts at one end, a cross-sectional position of the window with a precise hook is required.
- Metal plastic coals are used as a buckle. One edge is attached to the part projected through the window opening and the other is attached to the wall below the window. This step can be safely skipped if the threshold is not being used as a location.
- The gap between the window opening and the window shelf is blown with foam for installation at a depth of 5-10 cm (see also article
Be careful! If you decide to leave all the space between the threshold and the opening of the windows, be sure to securely fix the installed part - it can lift up from the pressure of the foam.
In the future, the foam gap is sealed by whales.
The same applies to depressions in the walls if they have been completed.
In this article and in the illustrations you can find a visual installation process.
Glue installation
The installation described above, although strong, the foam assembly loses its properties over time.
Therefore, some owners prefer to install window shelves on a solid base.
This technology has a number of advantages:
- Do not use materials that will soon lose their working properties.
- The installation is carried out on a rigid base, the installed product retains very strong mechanical loads - it can freely sit and stand on the window.
The installation procedure corresponds to the technology:
- Markings and cuts are made in accordance with the classical scheme.
- The wall on which the unit will be installed must be cleaned and all residues and dust must be removed.
- On it, using a cement-jet mortar or glue, we perform a screed. The height is set so that the window frame is displayed at the installation site in the frame.
- On any silicone adhesive located on the threshold, you can use liquid plastic to repair plastic windows or seal joints, tile adhesive. You can also simply drop the piece in the tie.
As a rule, there should be no spaces. But if there is a small gap under the window, it can be closed with putty or using adhesive compounds.
If you use any of the proposed installation options, remember: replacement and repair of plastic windows is carried out from below, so try not to damage the window frame. Successful renovation!

Modern plastic structures have many undeniable advantages. A material such as PVC can be used almost everywhere to solve certain problems.
It makes beautiful and durable windows. However, at the same time, there is a demand for other structural elements - window sills. They must also meet fairly high requirements.
Experienced engineers and installers note that window sills perform many important functions:
- Provides high strength.
- Helps improve durability.
- Open up new possibilities for exploitation.
- Gives aesthetic appeal.
Highly durable and stylish plastic construction.
Long gone are the days when various plastic elements were considered unreliable and harmful. Today, PVC is one of the most durable and environmentally friendly materials.

Are your window sills long-eared?
Recently, Dmitry Sivak had a blog post about window sill ears.
In short:
Cleats date back to the days when every window had an internal casing around it, so it's normal for traditional styles. But if you are a design rebel or an art revolutionary, then feel free to make the window sill not only without side projections, but generally flush with the window opening.
There is one point that confuses me about all this. With roller blinds and Roman blinds, everything is clear if they are located on the window itself or along the width of the window opening:
But if they are dark, then light will shine through the cracks from under them.
What to do if the curtains are hanging on the wall?
If you make the window sill narrower, they will hang around the edges:
The topic of huge ears is also not covered:
What do you think? Have you ever thought about window sill ears? How are you?

And in all apartments in the Russian Federation and the Netherlands there are lop-eared people everywhere :))))
By the way, I didn’t think that such a photo would ever be useful, so I didn’t take it. When we replaced the windows and window sills in our Stalinist building, there was almost a rail for the window sill in the walls right up to the frame, well, it’s the same as a groove in the slopes along which it was literally inserted there (in the original we had granite window sills).
But in Israel, most apartments have no window sills at all. This is one of the items on the list of things that plunged me into culture shock upon arrival.
I have such “ears” that they merge into one large marble window sill (15 cm from the wall, 40 cm from the window). Literally from one side wall to the other. Under it there are radiators under the sheathing, and where they are not there are small cabinets. I love large window sills, for flowers - it turned out to be such a large shelf.
Rather not “why”, but “why”. Plastering a window opening with a “eared” window sill is 100 times easier, because there is no need to maintain the thickness of the plaster to the nearest micron.
The argument with curtains doesn’t work at all, because... they change more often than window sills, even for the most careless housewives
