The oven does not work: in a gas or electric stove

A gas or electric stove with an oven is a common thing in every kitchen. The world's leading companies producing household appliances - Hephaestus, Desanu, Ariston, Mora, Indesit, Hansa, Elenberg, Veko, Flama, Electrolux, Optima, Darina - produce a large selection of stoves . Those who use stoves, even from leading brands, are familiar with the situation when a gas oven goes out. This can lead to both a spoiled dish and a real danger when gas enters the burner but there is no fire.

Possible causes of malfunctions and methods for correcting them

A gas oven often goes out due to the rapid release of the control knob when igniting. It's unpleasant, but fixable. It's another matter when the fire goes out if the dish is already in the oven.

Modern gas stoves are equipped with electric ignition, gas control systems, thermostats and timers. A common drawback in their operation is flame extinction. This happens for the following reasons:

  • the gas supply regulator is released prematurely;
  • the solenoid valve is broken;
  • The thermocouple is installed above the fire level.

Other reasons:

  • thermocouple wear or burning;
  • faulty thermostat;
  • thermostat malfunction;
  • connection failure in the elements of the gas control system;
  • the cabinet door fits too tightly (no air flow);
  • jammed gas valve.

If the breakdown is not serious, you can solve the problem of burner damping yourself.

Briefly about the power of the burners and stove

The total power of the working surface depends on the number of burners and their direct power, indicated in the equipment passport. The average for one burner is 2-2.5 kW. With decent gas quality and normal pressure in the line, this value is quite enough for comfortable and relatively quick heat treatment of products. In this case, the maximum power of the burner is determined when the regulator is turned to the maximum and gas is fully supplied.

Manufacturers often offer household hobs, the burners of which have different power ratings:

  • on small ones - 0.7-1.2 kW;
  • on average - 1.3-1.8 kW;
  • on large ones - up to 4 kW and more.

Such a technological solution is quite logical and convenient: it makes no sense to brew coffee in a Turk on a powerful WOK burner or try to boil a large volume of water on a small one. Choosing different capacities allows you to save gas, and if the room temperature is maintained using an air conditioner, you can also save electricity.

Thus, the acceptable parameters for the calorific value of the gas used by a hob from the middle price segment, consisting of 4 burners, is 8-10 kW. More budget models usually have a total power of 5-7 kW.

Cooking surfaces with a high calorific value for normal safe operation may require the installation of a separate chimney or the installation of a heavy-duty hood. However, for home use, purchasing such models is not always advisable.

Gas stoves with two- and three-circuit burners are especially popular. The so-called double or triple “crown” is a powerful burner in which the flame is produced not in one row, but in several circles. This device allows you to cook faster and heat dishes more evenly.

The flame goes out when the regulator is released

The oven in a gas stove most often goes out after releasing the knob or button, since ignition is the weakest point of the unit.

The burner goes out for the following reasons:

  • The temperature control device (thermocouple) is located next to the burner at flame level. The gas supply stops immediately as soon as the sensors are triggered when the temperature drops critically. If you release the button too early, the thermocouple does not have time to warm up and the gas supply is blocked. So hold the button a little longer. Then turn the knob to the maximum temperature to speed up the heating of the thermocouple. Set the required temperature for heating in normal mode.
  • Contamination of the ignition button or lever prevents the command from reaching the thermocouple. To restore spark to the burner, clean the regulator of any accumulated grease and dry it.
  • The spark plug is dirty. If even after cleaning the ignition does not work, replace the spark plug.

If all your actions did not help, and the oven continues to go out, contact a specialized workshop with a request.

Preventive measures

The key to long-term and uninterrupted service of a gas stove and oven is timely maintenance and proper operation. The equipment must be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Periodically it is necessary to clean the oven from dirt, including cleaning the burner. But, if the malfunction could not be avoided, and it is impossible to fix it yourself, you should contact a professional technician. You should not try to fix a complex breakdown yourself; this entails safety risks.

The flame in the oven goes out during operation

It is possible that when igniting the flame does not appear in the burner. This may mean that the spark plug is not receiving the electronic signal that causes the spark.

If a spark does not occur or the burner goes out some time after ignition, the gas control system is activated. Therefore, the risk of gas accumulation with the ensuing consequences is minimized. However, the danger remains, and a spoiled dish does not bring joy.

Why the oven goes out and how to fix it on your own:

  • The thermocouple includes sensors that sense heat and produce millivolts. The current charge moves along the copper wire to the solenoid valve, which regulates the amount of gas supplied to the burner. The magnetized valve remains open as long as millivolts are applied to it. As soon as the thermocouple cools, the production of electrical charge stops. And the magnet releases the shut-off valve. If the thermocouple fails, it must be replaced with a new one.
  • If there is insufficient pressure in the gas pipeline, the weak burner flame is not able to heat the thermocouple sensor. The safety valve is activated. Most often this happens when using a gas cylinder: replacing the empty one with a new one solves the problem.
  • Burner misalignment after careless manipulations while cleaning the stove. The burner horn is displaced relative to the thermocouple, and it does not heat up enough. The distortion can be detected by the appearance of soot and an uneven orange flame. For normal operation, the burner must be in the correct position.
  • Displacement of the thermocouple tip also occurs as a result of careless actions when washing the inside of the gas oven. The element must be carefully returned to its original position.
  • The thermocouple tip is dirty during operation. You can clean it yourself if you have the necessary knowledge.
  • Insufficient gas supply occurs due to jamming of the tap. The reason is contamination that led to insufficient turning of the lamb.

These are the main reasons that can be eliminated on your own when the oven in a gas stove or appliances, Greta, Indesit, Zanussi, etc. goes out during operation. If these problems are corrected and the burner continues to go out, do not engage in self-diagnosis and repairs. Gas appliances are high-risk devices, so troubleshooting should be carried out by qualified technicians.

Actions you can do yourself

Since devices running on blue fuel are explosive devices, it is not recommended to repair anything yourself, replace parts, or disassemble the structure. To reduce the risk of breakdowns, it is recommended to follow the operating instructions and carry out timely cleaning.

When cleaning surfaces, try to prevent detergent from penetrating the nozzles and other elements.

Also, the installation and connection of the equipment must be carried out in such a way that the position of the hose can be adjusted at any time, and the possibility of squeezing the electrical supply cable if the device has electric ignition is eliminated, and the possibility of bending the hose.

Safety measures for gas ovens implemented by manufacturers

Since gas is an explosive substance, device manufacturers have taken care to reduce the risks as much as possible. This explains the presence in modern furnaces of a gas control system, the main task of which is protection against leakage and emergency shutdown at the slightest malfunction.

In addition to automatic control of the gas supply when the thermocouple is triggered, the devices have a rotary knob locking function. This is very important if there are small children in the house.

Gas ovens do not have unnecessary control programs, but are equipped with only the most necessary functions for comfortable use. This:

  • convenient handles for regulating gas supply;
  • automatic ignition;
  • presence of a gas control system;
  • timer;
  • in some models - sound and light warning systems.

Ovens are securely closed with doors made of laminated heat-resistant glass to protect against burns from accidental touches.

All of the above functions are aimed at maximum convenience and safety of operation of gas appliances. Well-known brands such as Indesit, Ariston, Gorenie, Darina and others equip their products with additional control and protection functions. Today on the household appliances market you can find a gas stove with all the necessary characteristics that meet the needs of a demanding buyer.

Why does the electric ignition on the hob not work?

Increased dampness inside the panel.

Excess water that gets inside the structure after extensive washing or boiled-over food can create increased humidity. As everyone knows, water is a good conductor of electricity, so when it hits the contacts of the power button, it closes them and thereby activates the electric ignition of the hob. What to do in this situation? Such a malfunction is not dangerous for residents; it cannot lead to irreversible consequences, the only thing is that the constant clicking drives them crazy. As soon as the water evaporates, the clicking of the hob will immediately stop, so to help the water evaporate, you should turn on the oven for 30 minutes or turn off the power to the stove for 2-3 days. Before taking these steps, wipe the stove burners and entire worktop dry. If after a while the problem does not disappear, you should contact our repair shop and order hob repair.

Fat and food on control buttons.

Grease that has accumulated over time on the electric ignition buttons can jam it. In the design of the button, a conventional metal spring is installed to open the contacts, which, when the handle is released, returns to its original quiet state. The fat that gets into all the cracks of the button slows down the sliding mechanism and it is difficult for the spring to overcome such tension. Repeated activations may lead to jamming or complete breakage of the button. If the ignition switch breaks, the electric ignition unit will continuously generate an electrical spark - even after the burner has ignited. In this situation, only qualified gas stove repair will help you.

The ignition unit is faulty.

Like all household appliances, the hob has its own service life. With prolonged use, natural wear of parts appears, for example, over time, the electric ignition unit may close, which leads to constant clicking of the hob. In this situation, the right decision would be to invite a technician to your home to repair the electric ignition, or rather, replace the entire unit.

What to do to avoid breakdowns: useful tips

You can prevent a situation where the gas goes out in the oven if you follow simple rules for operating the appliance and cleaning it.

To do this you need:

  • keep all surfaces of the gas stove or oven clean at all times;
  • use for cleaning only products specifically designed for this purpose and of recommended quality;
  • Apply only acceptable cleaning methods specified in the instructions to a specific type of household device.

It is prohibited to use ovens for purposes other than their intended purpose.

The gas cabinet becomes dirty during operation. Fats, oils, and combustion products settle on its walls. To remove plaque, use special products containing small abrasive particles.

Clean the internal surfaces of the oven using a sponge and detergent. If you don't want to use chemicals, use baking soda with vinegar or citric acid. Treat the surfaces with the resulting slurry, leave for a few minutes to act, and remove dirt with a regular sponge.

The above measures will allow you to prolong the proper operation of the device. If the gas oven still goes out under warranty, make a request to the service center. The arriving technician will be able to accurately determine the cause and quickly fix the problem.

Prevention
