*Review of the best according to the editors of expertology.ru. About the selection criteria. This material is subjective in nature, does not constitute advertising and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before purchasing, consultation with a specialist is required.

This type of finishing, such as suspended ceilings, quickly gained popularity in Russia. Consumers immediately appreciated the ideal flatness of the surface, durability, high speed of installation, and minimal inconvenience in terms of rearranging furniture and cleaning the room. Foreign and domestic manufacturers offer systems made from different materials; the variety of textures and colors is amazing. It is difficult for an inexperienced buyer to make the right choice, so expert recommendations will be useful.

Differences in installation technology

As already mentioned, the properties of vinyl and fabric canvases have some features.
This is the reason for the difference in installation technology. Any PVC stretch ceiling requires heating. A gas gun is usually used for this. A stream of hot air is directed directly onto the canvas. At the same time, the room temperature rises to +60 °C. The elasticity of the film increases and it is easy to stretch it to the required size. Then a special fastener welded along the edges - a harpoon - is tucked into a profile pre-installed around the perimeter of the room. This type of fastening is used only with PVC film. Installation begins from the corner marked by the ceiling manufacturer and continues gradually in both directions along the entire perimeter.

Subsequently, as the room cools, the canvas is tensioned. For this type of ceiling, the accuracy of the measurements is especially important. Cutting the film for a stretch ceiling is carried out using special software. And the finished ceiling is approximately 20% smaller than the area of the room.

Polyester, on the other hand, tends to shrink when heated. Therefore, the installation of a fabric stretch ceiling is carried out without a heat gun and preliminary cutting. A roll of the required width is unrolled right on the spot, and the excess is cut off after stretching. They begin to tuck the fabric into the baguette first on the walls (primarily on the short ones), and only then tighten the corners. Heat may be needed here - in some cases, when stretching the fabric, minor folds form in the corners. It is enough to warm them up a little with a hair dryer so that the material straightens out and acquires a smooth surface. But as a rule, experienced craftsmen do without heating.

Methods of fastening canvases

To install the film on the ceiling, it is prohibited to use nails or screws, or similar materials. In this case, the film or woven material may tear. For installation work, special profiles are used, from which the frame is made, after which the canvas itself is fixed to them. Fastening parts can be made of aluminum or plastic. In the first case, it is advantageous to use the profile for a large room from 50 sq.m., since aluminum can withstand high stress. Plastic is suitable for a medium or small room, but aluminum can also be used in it.

There are several main types of fastening for stretch ceilings. They all differ in shape, design and distinguish types:

  • Harpoon. This option involves accurate calculations of the area; it is necessary to carry out preliminary preparation of the material for tension. A plastic edge - a harpoon - is attached to the edges of the PVC film, after which it is fixed in the baguette using a special hole. The method makes it possible to dismantle the canvas and reinstall it if necessary. This type simplifies access to the space under the suspended and main ceilings, especially important if there is lighting, generators and other devices. The film can be dismantled to remove water after an accident.
  • Wedge or glazing bead. The installation methods are very similar. To do this, you need to make a reserve of film within the range of 8-13%, its edges are inserted into the profile and secured with a plug. With this technology, parts of the film remain at the edges, which can be hidden or trimmed. The installation is quite simple, since the master does not need to pre-prepare the film, and all calculations can be done “by eye” and do not require high precision. The main disadvantage is the impossibility of re-installation after dismantling.
  • Clip-on. Suitable for woven fabrics that will be attached similarly to a clothespin, where the edges are inserted.

A specialist can determine the exact type of fastening; it all depends on the material and room.

Which option to choose

So which is better - fabric stretch ceiling or PVC? Perhaps the question posed in this way is not entirely correct. It is more correct to ask: “Which ceiling is best suited to a particular room?” In any case, a compromise will be required between operating conditions and personal aesthetic preferences.

The comparison table below will help you make the right choice.

PropertiesFilmTextile
StrengthPVC is a tear-resistant and elastic material, but it can be easily damaged by any sharp object.Fabric sheets are denser and stronger, practically do not stretch, and are difficult to damage mechanically.
Permissible temperature rangeThe film is used at temperatures from +40 to -5 °C; use in unheated rooms is unacceptable.Fabric sheets can withstand from +80 to -50 °C; installation in unheated rooms (country houses, dachas, balconies) is allowed.
Degree of sagging over time0 – 30 mm0 – 10 mm
Moisture resistancePVC is a waterproof material; when flooded from above, it can withstand up to 100 liters of liquid for a long time; after its removal, the original appearance of the film is restored; it is recommended for wet rooms.Low moisture resistance: installation in the bathroom and kitchen is undesirable with a ceiling height of less than 2.7 m, increased requirements for ventilation. After flooding, leaks begin within 2 hours; subsequently, stains and stains that cannot be removed may remain.
SoundproofingAbsent, the film can even slightly increase the noise from neighbors, the “echo” effect.Low, however, there are special acoustic types of fabric stretch ceilings that eliminate the “echo” effect.
Thermal insulationAbsent.Low, it will not play a special role without additional thermal insulation materials.
Width size range130-600 cm (European production - up to 325 cm)150-510 cm
Installation featuresHeating the canvas to 60 °C using a heat gun, increased requirements for the installation team personnel and safety measures.Without using a heat gun.
Environmental friendlinessSafe for health and the environment.
Fire resistanceThey melt and ignite if exposed to open flame for a long time.Melts and does not support combustion.
DesignThe widest possibilities for design solutions: glossy shiny, matte and satin surfaces, embossing, bright and moderate tones and shades of all colors, excellent photo printing, the ability to install multi-level, decorative perforated, translucent, transparent canvases and many other options.A more modest range of colors, soft, soft tones, only matte texture, fabric texture with a flat surface. The small choice is compensated by a noble, even aristocratic appearance. Can be painted up to 5 times. Photo printing is also possible, but it does not look as bright.
Features of careEasy to clean from dirt. Washing with chlorine-free detergents is acceptable; abrasive cleaning agents are unacceptable. Fabrics are antibacterial and dirt-repellent. They can be easily cleaned only from surface contaminants.
Service life (warranty)10-12 years10-12 years
Price per m2350-700 rub.800-1500 rub.

Thus, suspended ceilings of different types, despite similar designs, have a unique set of properties and features. Which of them is the best in a particular case must be decided, taking into account the operating conditions of the room, the characteristics of the paintings and personal preferences.

Palette and texture

Tension walls are often made for the sake of a bright design. Such that it would make everyone who entered admire it. Film and fabric sheets are ideal for this purpose. Any design can be printed on them - from a field with bright red tulips running beyond the horizon to a trendy abstraction or a “portrait” of a distant galaxy. And if you make proper interior lighting, a tension wall can indeed cause genuine amazement.

However, you need to be careful here. What delights during single short viewings becomes boring and annoying when you see it every day and for hours.

When choosing an interior style, people focus on fashion. The world's largest exhibitions set trends. In the coming year, canvases depicting landscapes, small grass compositions and futuristic collages are considered bad taste. Red, orange and bright yellow walls are also bad manners.

Instead, prints in the style of the 70s of the last century are offered. Shades are pastel, muted or, conversely, frankly deep and rich.

It is important that in the 70s, interiors that were customized to a specific person, his interests and hobbies were in fashion. That is, everyone decided for themselves what would be nice for them in their home. Only vulgarity, redundancy in details and color palette were not welcomed, which is still relevant today.

The colors of the year are classic blue and mint, under which designers combine combinations of emerald and blue tones. Natural shades are in fashion, of which there are hundreds. The choice is so rich that it is impossible not to fall into any trend.

At the beginning of last year, designers rebelled against glossy surfaces and have not changed their minds to this day. This is good support for those who perceive shiny walls with despondency or irritation. Those who like gloss can ignore the position of opponents. She is as subjective as he is.

Pros and cons of suspended ceilings

Advantages and disadvantages are determined by the type of coating used - PVC film or fabric ceilings.

But there are a number of common advantages:

  1. Finishing speed. Films are stretched for 4-10 hours, fabric - 5-12 hours.
  2. Saving the interior. Film coatings are capable of retaining large masses of water for a long time; fabric material is less waterproof, but can prevent the risk of spillage for 2-3 hours.
  1. There is no need to carry out leveling work on the ceiling plane. All defects, as well as communication pipes and beams in private houses, will be covered with canvas.
  2. Insulation and insulation materials can be laid under PVC and woven suspended ceilings.

Versatility. You can stretch fabrics in any room or building

It is important to choose materials that provide the desired level of comfort and meet the stated requirements for the use of space. Easy to care for. Cleaning is required no more than once every 6 months

Dry, wet cleaning is sufficient. If persistent stains appear, use conventional non-aggressive detergents.

Variability of color solutions, design formation, affordable price are additional advantages of finishing. It is also worth noting the long service life of the canvases, environmental friendliness and the possibility of using finishing in rooms with high requirements for the cleanliness of facing materials - in children's rooms, hospitals and other facilities.

The disadvantages of suspended ceilings depend on the type of fabric chosen:

  • film coverings cannot be installed in open spaces in areas with a possible decrease in temperature;
  • It is better not to use fabric sheets in rooms with high humidity levels;
  • PVC films for ceilings are welded to be stretched over large areas;
  • The maximum power of luminaires for suspended ceilings is no more than 40 watts; installation of a thermally insulating lampshade is mandatory.

When considering the pros and cons of suspended ceilings, it should be noted that it is necessary to involve a specialist to carry out the finishing. Do-it-yourself tensioning is possible, but the master will need special tools and experience, and no one can guarantee high-quality tension. It’s easier to use the services of professionals and get guarantees for all types of work.

Where are stretch ceilings used?

High-quality suspended ceilings can be used in any buildings, houses, rooms, but there are some peculiarities - films are best used in warm spaces, but woven fabrics are best used in areas with minimal moisture content, but woven materials do not deteriorate under the influence of negative temperatures.

Application area:

  • private houses made of any materials;
  • apartments;
  • warehouse and public buildings;
  • offices;
  • commercial buildings;
  • construction of entertainment complexes, including swimming pools, sports and concert halls;
  • educational institutions and others.

There is not a single building where tension fabrics cannot be used. Fabric materials will be an ideal solution for open areas of balconies, loggias, terraces, as well as in storage rooms, basements and underground parking lots. The structures are lightweight and do not weigh down floor slabs or load-bearing beams. If the choice is made correctly, the owner receives a fireproof, environmentally friendly and aesthetic coating that will last for several decades without the need for repairs or renovation of the ceiling surface.

Review, analysis and comparison of 8 world leaders in ceiling production

Published: 2019-03-24

Few people today need to explain what a suspended ceiling is and why it is good. For more than two decades of its widespread use, the vast majority of people, if they do not know the differences between PVC and fabric sheets, are certainly aware of the positive aspects of its use. On the Internet, everyone can easily find comprehensive information about the advantages and disadvantages of this product, but the verdict of all opinions will be the same, a suspended ceiling is an excellent solution that combines simplicity and reliability, a varied appearance and an affordable price.

Looking ahead, let's say that all famous manufacturers from European countries have either moved their factories to China long ago, or even buy film made in Chinese factories. The reason for all this is simple - production costs in this country are significantly lower, and Chinese factories themselves have long learned to produce high-quality, safe and inexpensive material. There is no doubt that everything is made in China. The question is: under what brand will you receive the final material?

We will analyze the 8 most famous manufacturers, analyze available reviews, official information and consider the current state of production.

Вarrisol

The presentation description, which is expected, contains very little valuable information and specifics, however, for the sake of completeness, it will be on our list for each manufacturer.

Varrisol stretch ceilings are presented in Russia in a wide range of products of various configurations. The Barrisol brand was founded in France in 1975 and during its long existence has received positive reviews from millions of users around the world. All products of this manufacturer comply with all international standards in the field of quality, epidemic, environmental and fire safety. The company's assortment includes canvases in a palette of more than 230 colors and textures.

Country of origin: France.

Website: https://barrisol.ru

Cost: High.

Reviews on the Internet: Not enough. Positive.

Users highlight the excellent quality of the material: dense and uniform texture, high specularity.

Initially, the material was purchased in Germany, from the German ]Renolit[/anchor]. There is no exact information about where production is currently established. Everyone, without exception, including dealers, notes the very high price, which is explained by the fact that Barrisol position themselves in the elite segment of ceilings. Due to the low distribution and high cost, the risk of receiving a fake is extremely high, so before you enter into an agreement with the installer, make sure you have documents confirming the originality of the material.

Negative reviews contain only information about unscrupulous representative companies who, for example, take advance payment for work and do not carry it out. That is, openly deceiving clients. These situations are associated in particular with the companies Barrisol Rus and Meson Soler, which were owned by the same person. Those interested can read the details here. These cases did not go unnoticed by both law enforcement agencies and the official representative, who published information on the termination of cooperation on his website.

The main website contains information about only two representative distributors in Russia. The first is located in Moscow, the second in Novosibirsk.

It is worth noting that Varrisol really has a rich assortment of all kinds of textures and interesting solutions for both ceilings and walls. In addition, the company carries out at a high level complex orders for the design of uniquely designed ceiling structures in airports, museums and pavilions. Such projects are demonstrated with many presentation materials on the official website.

Acoustic micro-perforated films that absorb sound and reduce noise. The material reduces reverberation and enhances sound perception

In addition to solutions for complex architectural structures, Barrisol offers many options for use in houses and apartments.

From the recommendations of the official manufacturer, the following instructions are noted.

Installation of lamps with a power of no more than 50 watts is permitted. Built-in luminaires with heating temperatures greater than 50° C must be installed with insulating thermal rings.

The concept of multiple layers allows you to create original 3D effects that can be implemented on walls and ceilings.

PTMC Polyplast.

Due to its convenient geographical location, attractive design and excellent characteristics, products under the PTMC Polyplast brand have gained recognition in the European Union, America, Brazil, Asia, Russia and many other countries. Reviews on the Internet: Not relevant.

There is conflicting information on this company in the public domain. According to some information, it was created with one sole purpose - to buy materials from China, and not of the highest quality, and sell them under the guise of a European brand. According to others, it is a large and, until a certain time, successful company producing film and components. But due to the 2008 crisis, management moved production facilities to China, while maintaining quality and technology standards. In addition, over time, the company began to partially order film from MSD. Whichever of these options seems more truthful to you, the conclusion will be clear - the film is produced in China or purchased ready-made there.

On forums dedicated to stretch ceilings, there were individuals who tried to prove the originality of production in Belgium, but their attempts were immediately refuted by photographs from the website of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation (GOST), where the inscription Made in China appeared.

One way or another, today all deliveries to Russia have been stopped. This is indicated by the inscription on the company’s official website.

However, at the moment you can find offers to install Belgian stretch ceilings under the guise of selling off old warehouse stocks. Then we would recommend that you either send a request to such a company for photo confirmation of the goods in the warehouse in order to receive a photo of approximately the same content, or contact other companies.

PONGS Products

Description:

The PONGS company is a traditional German manufacturer of finishing materials, which has a long history. Currently, the company is one of the leaders in the production of high-quality stretch ceilings. The product range of this manufacturer includes matte, glossy and satin fabric in a different color palette. The main advantages of suspended ceilings from this German manufacturer are:

1. A high degree of frost resistance, which reaches values of – 50C and allows the installation of a suspended ceiling in unheated rooms.

2. A large range of stretch fabrics of different colors and textures allows us to satisfy the most demanding customers.

3. High mechanical strength, which eliminates cuts, cracks, tears and other defects.

4. Excellent resistance to moisture, prolonged exposure to sunlight, chemically active substances and dust.

5. Simple and quick installation, which takes the minimum possible time and effort.

Pongs produces canvases of various textures under different names.

Matte film - Mattfolie.

Glossy - Lackfolie.

Plain satin and embossed - Effektfolie.

Fabric sheets - Descor.

Country of origin: Germany

Website: https://pongs.com

Cost: High.

Reviews on the Internet: Many. Mostly positive.

Users like the fact that the materials do not fade or fade under the sun, a long warranty, a long service life, and no sagging.

Factories producing the material are located in Germany. But the company does not hide the fact that film more than 3.2 meters wide is purchased in China at the MSD plant and the German manufacturer’s markings are not applied to it. Therefore, if you want to see genuine German quality on your ceilings, choose canvases up to 3 meters wide.

In negative reviews, people often complain about a long, unpleasant smell that does not disappear for up to a month. But here it is worth mentioning that such problems are inherent only in cheap Chinese film, so we can say with confidence that in all these cases the buyers were given a fake. Until recently, it was possible to insure yourself against such deceptions by buying canvases up to 3 meters wide with markings. But since the summer of 2021, all material from this manufacturer has ceased to be labeled. Only stickers remained on the inside of the film tube, which negated previous opportunities to check originality.

Not all companies offering PONGS informed their customers about this. We found only a few companies on the Internet that posted this information on their websites. Some have even stopped selling these ceilings because they do not want to mislead customers. We asked a question to several companies previously involved in the distribution of German ceilings and received an answer that the markings did not appear on the film.

As with Barrisol ceilings, the main problem remains Chinese fakes. Due to the cessation of marking, it has now become very difficult to check the manufacturer, so all that can be recommended in this difficult situation is either to try by hook or by crook to find out the originality, or only pay attention to the smell on an already installed ceiling. It should not last more than 2-3 days.

This is exactly what the designation on the film of the German manufacturer used to look like.

And that's all there is now.

New Mat

Description:

New Mat stretch ceilings have French roots, which provides them with true European workmanship and attractive design. Excellent performance characteristics, a wide range of products and affordable prices provide products under the New Mat brand with a high level of popularity in Russia. They are easy to install and maintain throughout their entire service life. Among the innovations from the New Mat brand, special mention should be made of the Newgraphic art painting technology, which allows you to obtain original ceiling designs. The main advantages of New Mat stretch ceilings are:

1. Numerous laboratory studies have confirmed the excellent performance, hygienic and fire-fighting properties of New Mat stretch ceilings.

2. The presence of a special antibacterial fabric allows the use of New Mat stretch ceilings in medical institutions, schools and preschool institutions, medical and research laboratories.

3. Long service life, during which suspended ceilings do not lose their performance and aesthetic qualities.

4. A high level of resistance to high levels of humidity allows you to endure a flood without the formation of irreparable defects.

5. A wide range of different sheets and fastening profiles allows installation in rooms of various configurations.

We did not find any information about the location of this photo, including from foreign sources. Even similar photographs or from other angles do not exist. With a high degree of probability, the plant, in this form, is long gone.

From the few positive reviews: very flexible film, no creases, neutral smell, good specularity.

Based on the bits of information collected on specialized forums, you can find out that the specialists of this manufacturer evaluate it extremely positively. We were unable to find any information about the availability of labels or distributors in Russia. If you are lucky enough to meet a company in your city that installs such ceilings, perhaps you have really found France, but we do not recommend taking their word for it. Try to at least see documents proving this.

Original decoration of walls and ceilings with NEW CLIP canvases. A durable, insulating and acoustic membrane printed with any pattern that stretches in a few hours without the use of heat.

Renolit

Description:

Stretch ceilings from Germany are known all over the world due to the impeccable quality of their products. The company, which began its activities in the 70s of the last century, is today an internationally recognized brand. The company's activities are based on the production of film products for many industries: roofing, pharmaceuticals, and marine facilities.

Country of origin: Germany

Website: https://www.renolit.com

Cost: High.

Online reviews: Mixed.

There are no complaints about the quality of the ceilings, but some owners again encounter a strong odor.

Renolit is one of the founders of the production of suspended ceilings in Germany. Constant improvement of technology and competition with Pongs have made renolit products one of the highest quality and environmentally friendly on the market. In addition, the company developed and supplied material to the French company Barrisol. On the official website we can find information that Renolit has more than 30 branches all over the world.

Opinions regarding these ceilings on forums differ. Some argue that the quality of materials has now dropped significantly and is no better than Chinese analogues from MSD. Regarding the smell, there is a version that special non-flammable additives are used in production, which are the cause. In any case, the film from this manufacturer has both markings and a watermark, which will easily allow you to determine the identity of the material. Of the obvious disadvantages, it is worth highlighting the high price and small size of the canvases, up to 2 meters. So, a visible seam on the ceiling cannot be avoided. Otherwise, this is truly a German ceiling of good quality, without serious advantages over its competitors.

CTN

Description:

CTN has existed since 1976 and is part of a group of French companies producing decorative and finishing materials. The group of companies includes several enterprises operating in various fields:

Materials for the design of exhibitions and events.

Production of technical fabrics for use in the construction field, various textiles and covering materials.

Production of mannequins and goods for fashion and sewing companies.

Production of large format mirrors from ultra-light materials for decoration, exhibition events, theaters.

Country of origin: France

Reviews on the Internet: No.

The company specializes in the production of film materials for various purposes. The portfolio includes the implementation of quite large and prestigious projects.

Dior pavilion made of CTN mirrors on Red Square. Turquoise carpet on a mosque in Moscow. Mirror ceiling in one of the Moscow restaurants.

Since 2013, the company has its representative in Russia, CTN Russie, with its own website https://ctn.com.ru. Among the offers on the Russian website, of course, there are films for suspended ceilings. The problem is that when trying to go to the section with them, the user will be transferred to an incomprehensible site, obviously of Chinese content.

What is this? We asked a question about this on the site itself. But we never received an answer.

At the moment, there is no reliable information in which country production is established, but CTN is one of the few companies that labels its products. Therefore, if you want to get a piece of France home, then purchase ceilings with a distinctive inscription along the edge of the canvas. In the line of suspended ceilings from CNN you will not find films wider than 2 meters, so if you are offered such, you should know that you are being deceived.

Saros Design

Description:

The founding date of the Saros Design company is pravda-i-lozh-proizvoditelyax-potolka6, when the first supplies of French-made stretch ceilings were organized on the Russian market. At the beginning of 2000, the company mastered the production of suspended ceilings under its own brand, which made it possible to significantly increase the range and quality of products sold. The main characteristic of all Saros Design products is full compliance with all domestic and European quality standards. Since 2008, suspended ceilings under the Saros Design brand have been successfully exported to the CIS countries, the Baltic countries, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The main distinctive advantages of Saros Design products are:

1. The guaranteed service life of the Saros Design stretch ceiling is ten years.

2. The range of manufactured products includes more than 150 colors and shades of canvases that can be used to decorate the ceiling.

3. High mechanical strength and water resistance, which can withstand up to 100 kg of water per square meter.

4. No strict care requirements; the use of specialized cleaning products is allowed.

5. Hypoallergenic properties make it possible to use Saros Design stretch ceilings in rooms with increased sanitary and hygienic requirements.

Saros Design was one of the first to develop specialized software for smartphones, which allows you to create and calculate unique suspended ceiling designs.

Country of origin: Russia. Provider.

Reviews on the Internet: Many. Mostly positive.

The site provides for the posting of reviews that anyone can make, both negative and positive, and from different cities. In the reviews themselves, there are no complaints about the quality of the ceilings; the problems are mainly related to installation by installers: in some places they did not use covering material, in others the electrical contacts were not connected tightly, etc. At the same time, the company considers all negative opinions privately and offers compromise solutions.

Saros branches are located in 12 cities in Russia and two abroad. In addition, Saros Design supplies MSD film to third-party companies in other cities.

It is worth noting that the company has repeatedly participated in the “School of Repair on TNT” project; there is a separate portfolio on the website.

The material is brought from China, straight from the MSD plant, but the film is produced on a separate production line. Of the 3 types, premium quality material is used. The company speaks honestly and openly about Chinese production, without trying to deceive anyone with imaginary promises about European canvases. Despite this annoying fact, the company is very popular, because many people prefer to buy China at a reasonable cost, rather than receive it under the guise of Germany, Italy and at multiple inflated prices.

MSD

Manufacturer country:

Website: www.zjmsd.com

Cost: Low.

Reviews on the Internet: Many. Mostly positive.

The company has been known since 2002 and today it is a leader among Chinese manufacturers of film for suspended ceilings.

The range of goods produced is very wide, including: nets, tarpaulin products, fabrics for banners. Chinese engineers, using all technological advances, made a serious leap forward, catching up with the quality of their products from world brands. Since 2011, the company has launched the production of film with a width of more than 5 meters, which has significantly surpassed its competitors and attracted the attention of European companies. Many manufacturers from Europe chose not to participate in the technology race, but to transfer their production to the Republic of China, while investing in it with their developments and funds. Several years ago, the Russian market experienced an influx of MSD counterfeits, which had a strong odor and significant streaks when tensioning the blades. From that moment on, MSD began to actively use distinctive signs - logos on tubes.

The very fact of the Chinese origin of the material gave rise to various authorities for numerous quality checks. Based on their results, no violations or deviations from the norm were found. The films are certified EN71-3, REACH, ROHS, fire safety standard B1 and B2 levels. The MSD ceiling is waterproof, wear-resistant, antibacterial, antifungal and, importantly, has no seam.

Today, MSD film is the best in terms of price/quality ratio among all market offerings. Chinese industry is not always defective and third-rate. This stereotype breaks down as soon as a person looks at his phone, TV and other household appliances. Everywhere there will be an inscription Made in China. Many people have probably heard the phrase more than once that it is necessary to divide China into factory and underground China. The original production of MSD is carried out in the largest factories using the best achievements of European specialists who invested technology and knowledge in the Chinese industry, not suspecting what level of competition they would eventually develop. What can we say about the fact that on the neighboring conveyor from the MSD there is material for German PONGS.

You can check your suspended ceiling for fakes using this link. In the input field you need to enter the barcode from the sticker on the plug, without asterisks (*).

Conclusion:

It is definitely worth recognizing that now there is virtually no point in chasing the search for popular ceiling brands. You will either be deceived with a high degree of probability, or you will spend a lot of nerves and time to check the authenticity of Germany or France. Even if you manage to get truly European material, with a seam, it will cost 2-4 times more than the Chinese options, while the difference in film quality will be negligible. Today, only a few brands produce film at their own factories in China, all the rest purchase it from leading Chinese companies; there is practically no own Western European production. Is it worth overpaying then? We think not, but the choice, of course, is yours.

If you liked the material, we will be glad to see your rating

Beautiful examples in the interior

The ceiling does not necessarily have to have a perfectly smooth surface. The relief and figured ceiling looks very original and stylish. In this case, aluminum slats of similar shades were used. This ceiling is resistant to high temperatures, is not afraid of moisture and provides excellent air circulation. In addition, the design is easy to maintain and will last for several decades.

The universal and most popular ceiling color is white. Beige or cream is less commonly used. But a colored or dark ceiling also looks great in some styles

But it is important to be able to combine it with the overall style of the interior.

When choosing suspended ceilings, you need to decide which option you like best - matte or glossy. A shiny, almost mirror-like gloss finish perfectly expands the space. And matte hides the seams between the canvases as much as possible. But in some cases it is not necessary to mask the seams. This can become a kind of highlight of the interior. So, for example, a satin white ceiling with black stripes looks laconic and stylish in a modern living room interior.

The ceiling can serve as a continuation of the overall concept of the room or become a unique work of art. You can apply an unusual pattern, ornament or even photographs to the surface.

If the area of the apartment does not allow you to use and burden a small space with voluminous multi-level structures, and the interior style needs to be supplemented with figured and carved elements, pay attention to stretched fabrics with patterns. This is a great way to put a modern twist on the classics.

Suspended structures can look advantageous in many interior styles. And the loft is no exception. Hidden LED lighting above the suspended structure highlights the natural roughness and unevenness of the concrete floor and creates the effect of being in an industrial production room.

Fans of non-standard design solutions will appreciate ceilings that are unusual in shape and style. An option is considered stylish when the design of the hanging system is combined with shelves, niches, furniture or other decorative elements. For example, a non-standard solution is a ceiling that complements the design of a staircase in a country house.

Selection of paintings for a specific room

Any room in a house or apartment has a specific task and function. When choosing suspended ceilings, it is necessary to take into account operational parameters. To determine which glossy stretch ceilings you should better understand the characteristics of the room. Glossy options will not always look better, so you should read these recommendations from experts:

  • If the neighbors upstairs are not the most prosperous, there are risks of flooding, then the choice should be made on PVC sheets, and installation should be carried out using the harpoon method.
  • For country houses that do not have constant heating, it is recommended to install woven fabric, because the material is not negatively affected by cold and heat.
  • The bathroom is characterized by constant changes in temperature, dampness and high humidity appear. In this case, a PVC ceiling would be an ideal option and it is better to use a glossy coating, which will additionally visually expand the area. The material will easily withstand aggressive conditions; in the event of flooding by neighbors, it will withstand the volume of water and will not lead to a breakthrough. After eliminating the accident, it can be quickly returned to its place without compromising the appearance and main characteristics.
  • Cooking is constantly happening in the kitchen, and all the fumes rise and can settle on the ceiling, in addition, the steam can cause increased humidity, and in this case the best suspended ceilings for the kitchen will be made of PVC material with a glossy surface. This ceiling is easy to clean from stains and grease, and has water-repellent characteristics.
  • The living room in any house or apartment is the largest room. Often they spend the most time in it, so the selection of material for the ceiling must be approached responsibly. In general, you can use any canvas, but make sure that the color scheme and texture complement the overall interior. It is preferable to use light and calm shades that will not clutter up. For example, with a general high-tech style, extraordinary options are suitable; you can use metallic.
  • The option with a pearl texture will be ideal for sophisticated and luxurious interiors, perfectly complementing large bedrooms.
  • Suede or other velvet types are not recommended for the bathroom or kitchen, but they will be perfect for living rooms, bedrooms or children's rooms.
  • Dark gloss with a large number of lighting fixtures will fit perfectly into living rooms and will expand it visually.
  • For children's rooms, you should select the brightest and most unusual ceiling designs. For example, matte fabric options will be characterized by a high degree of strength, they have good resistance to mechanical damage, which is convenient for active children. A big advantage will be the perforation, which will allow air to pass through normally, providing ventilation to the room. Glossy types are not recommended for use.

Knowing all the features of suspended ceilings, it will be much easier for a potential buyer to make the final choice that will satisfy all needs.

Stretch PVC ceiling

Considering what types of suspended ceilings there are, one cannot help but pay attention to PVC film materials. These are products welded from individual strips that are stretched using heat. The film itself and the air in the room heat up; after cooling, the film takes the desired shape. The texture and color scheme depend on the chosen material.

Types and characteristics

Manufacturers offer the following types of PVC films:

  1. Glossy. Reflective material. You should think through the area where the weld will be placed in advance so that it is not noticeable.
  2. Matte. An inexpensive type of material that does not have reflective properties, in its finished form resembles an ironed whitewashed ceiling.
  3. Satin. The middle type of material between glossy and matte film. Satin fabrics reflect light, but at the same time refract and scatter the rays, which looks especially aesthetically pleasing. Satin fabrics are produced in a wide variety of colors.

The main characteristic of PVC film that influences the choice is the width of the strip, which does not exceed 5 m, therefore, when finishing spacious ceilings, the strips are welded.

The list of reliable manufacturers is small:

  • Pongs, Germany. Unique seamless ceilings under the Descor brand. The thickness of the products is up to 0.3 mm, increased strength - the canvas can withstand up to 150 liters of liquid per 1 m2.
  • PTCM, Belgium. The width of the canvas is 5 m, a wide choice of colors and textures. The Belgian manufacturer offers canvases with photo printing and a 3D effect. High-quality products are distinguished by their durability, resistance to dust and dirt.

There are also manufacturers from the Russian Federation, China, and Turkey. But when choosing materials, you need to request certificates of conformity and look at the description - there is a high risk of getting defective fabrics with low performance indicators.

Cost and service life

On average, the price of installation of PVC panels starts from $8-15 (600-1200 rubles) per 1m2

It is important to consider the type of material, the shape of the structure, the presence of built-in lighting and other nuances. Manufacturer's warranty 15 years, service life from 20 years

Glue ceiling

The adhesive finishing method involves attaching the coating directly to the base using a special glue. The most used materials for this method are panels or tiles made of polystyrene foam. These tiles are characterized by their low weight (about 0.4 kg/m2), they are easy to cut, which makes it possible to use them in rooms of non-standard shape. Polystyrene also includes properties such as heat and sound insulation. However, the disadvantages of this material are that when glued end-to-end, the panels do not form a visually solid coating. To some extent, this has become the reason for the unpopularity of this type of finishing recently. However, with the advent of glass wallpaper, the method of pasting with wallpaper came back to life. Fiberglass wallpaper is very moisture resistant. Thanks to its long service life (20 years) and the ability to be painted 10-15 times, this material occupies a leading position on the market. In addition, the adhesive method is very easy and quick to implement, and also masks unevenness, cracks and other damage to the base ceiling. The usual thickness of the coating is 10 mm, and thanks to this particular characteristic, this coating can be used in rooms where the ceiling height reaches only 2.5 - 2.6 m. But there are also some disadvantages of the adhesive method: with its help it is possible to hide only minor defects horizontally. Lighting options are also limited: the use of built-in lighting is excluded, it is impossible to “disguise” any technical equipment, including electrical wiring. As for the purchase price for this type of finish, it depends directly on the material you choose. As an example, the price of foreign-made tiles fluctuates around 175 rubles per sq. m. The average cost of domestic polystyrene panels, especially non-laminated ones, is 15 rubles. per sq.m.

Descor - fabric ceilings at an affordable price

Having analyzed dozens of reviews on construction forums, we confidently declare that in this area the best manufacturer in the mid-price range is the German company Descor.

The width of their canvas is from 3.20 to 5.20 meters. Thus, it is easy to install the covering even in the largest room. The number of joints will be minimal (and on such ceilings they are almost invisible).

The quality is also excellent - the ceilings are made without harmful impurities, do not burn and are not toxic (if you do not plan to heat them for a long time).

A small minus: like most fabrics, they cannot boast of a wide range of colors - 30 shades, but they are unusually rich and deep. Separately, I would like to highlight 4 of them - the “Alupigment” series, where the main tone is diluted with a soft shine, giving the material an elegant glow.

The weight of the finished canvas is one of the minimum in this segment - only 245 g/m2. This allows you to do without massive profiles.

By the way, about using the latter: Descor easily takes any shape - arches or volumetric elements, if installed on a frame. True, you will need additional components for the profile. With a thickness of only 0.5 millimeters, this is an almost unique property.

Interesting to know: The authenticity of the canvas is easy to check - the stripes should have a fringe, with the inscription “D-PREMIUM MADE IN GERMANY” along the entire length along the edge. If they are not there, they offer you a fake.

Choosing a color for apartment ceilings

Today's diverse design options allow you to create the most incredible types of ceilings in your apartment. They are the simplest, monochromatic and representing one plane. This option is ideal for minimalism - it is often done in light shades. Such light ceilings are ideal for all style decisions. But sometimes situations arise when you want to add some variety, or the design requires original solutions.

The ceiling is often decorated with additional decorative elements.

If you want to experiment with color, then you should consider the basic rules:

  • if the room has a low ceiling, then you should use the lightest colors possible without complex designs;
  • when there is a low level of natural light, you should make a multi-level ceiling that is as light in color as possible, integrating spotlights into it;
  • if you use color on this part of the room, then it should be in harmony with the overall color scheme.

By designing this type of ceiling, you can easily hide any unevenness and imperfections on the ceiling surface.

Backlight color change

How do you change the color of floating structures? Elementary. Using the LED control panel you can:

  • reduce the intensity of the ceiling glow to a minimum, using floating technology in the form of a children's night light or creating a romantic atmosphere in the living room or bedroom (such photos can be found in magazines and the Internet);
  • increase the radiation intensity and obtain diffused light in the room;
  • choose any shade of lighting: white, light green, blue, orange, red spectrum, cream, yellow, etc.;
  • turn on flashing mode or color rainbow.

In addition to its aesthetic function, changing colors can affect mood. With white lighting around the perimeter, the mood will be business, work, everyday. Yellow light pouring on the walls will add warmth and comfort. Red will excite you, and green will create a feeling of mystery.

Although floating ceilings create a stunning effect, there is nothing special about their design. This applies even to highly complex multi-level tension systems. But it is worth noting that the work of professionals will not cost much more than self-installation, but the result will delight not only you, but also your guests.

Designer tips for choosing a ceiling for an apartment

When choosing a ceiling finish, you need to rely not only on your preferences, but also on the basic requirements that apply to this part of the room. Depending on the style decision, it is worth choosing the finishing material and color.

The larger the area of a single room and the entire home as a whole, the more experiments with decoration you can afford.

In a studio room, it is advisable to use the ceiling to zone the space. If, for example, you create a difference between the dining area and the living area or use different materials, then you can visually divide the room into two parts.

A wide range of finishing options in construction stores will allow you to easily bring to life the most daring design ideas and choose the right solution for any budget.

In any case, before you begin to implement any of your own plans, it is advisable to draw a sketch of the entire room with a certain type of ceiling. If your hand is not positioned sufficiently and you cannot create a sketch, then it is better to turn to a professional designer for it.

Features of choice

Expert advice will help you determine which stretch ceiling is best to choose. It is important to consider them before purchasing a product. For example, a lot depends on the material used:

  • The ability to use ceiling canvas in certain conditions: high humidity, dampness, cold or heat.
  • Brightness and saturation of colors when using a print.
  • The ability of the material to retain water if there is a breakthrough in the system of the upstairs neighbors.
  • Fixation method and the possibility of removing the ceiling and re-installing it.
  • Choice of colors and textures.
  • Practicality.

When choosing a texture, you need to take into account the overall interior of the room. In addition to matte, glossy or woven fabrics, you can find the following options on sale:

  • Perforated – products with small holes that are used for ceilings with internal lighting.
  • Metallic is an interesting option that changes colors and shades in certain light, and itself has a metallic sheen.
  • Suede - a chic ceiling with a small velvet pile, will complement expensive classic styles.
  • Silk has a slight sheen, which is characteristic of natural raw materials.
  • Marble is an imitation with a smooth surface and a stone-like pattern.
  • Mother-of-pearl is a ceiling with a soft sheen, an iridescence similar to pearls.

The ceiling surface itself can be embossed or smooth. The former have a slight relief and look simpler, while the latter are more complex, since they can contain figures, flowers and other images.

When deciding on a color scheme, you need to not only take into account personal preferences, but also the design of the room, the presence of daytime and evening light. The overall line should be with a maximum of 3 colors, taking into account the ceiling, furniture and other decorations.

Kinds

Two-level ceilings are a modern way to make the interior unique and original. With the help of building and finishing materials, you can achieve more than two levels of height. And at the same time, any design, in addition to aesthetics, has additional practical characteristics. But such multi-level structures look good only in spacious apartments.

There are several types of suspended ceilings:

Tension is perhaps the most popular finishing option. Fabric or PVC film with a minimum thickness is used. The surface does not require careful maintenance; it is enough to periodically wet clean it with a soft cloth to get rid of dust and dirt.

Each type of suspended ceiling is typical for certain types of premises. A wide variety of materials, designs, sizes and colors allows you to choose the ideal option for your apartment or house.

Is this type of repair durable?

If you compare tension walls with the same painted ones, you can easily recognize the superiority of the former. Judge for yourself - if the paint begins to peel off after just a few years, then the tension wall will not require replacement for three decades. So its high price is more than compensated by its durability. At the same time, sunlight, even if it is highly active, does not in any way affect the color of such a wall, since the paint in its composition does not fade under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.

What should be the height

Finishing the ceiling with a suspended structure requires at least a small frame. This will make the space of the room visually noticeably smaller. The design of a suspended ceiling is simple: using a frame system made of metal profiles or wooden beams, the canvas and various elements of the future covering are attached to the main partition. Decorative panels and all parts on a metal grille are attached to the installed hangers. Correct installation of guides and support profiles ensures easy installation. And with the most minimal installation option, the distance between the ceiling and the suspended ceiling will be at least 3 cm.

The ceiling installation height is also affected by some individual reasons:

Built-in lamps may have a large body, which will need to be hidden behind the ceiling structure. If desired, you can install an LED strip or a simple chandelier into the ceiling structure. It is also necessary to take into account the dimensions of the housing, which will be hidden behind the insulating material.

Cost of floating structures

The costs of arranging a simple suspended ceiling are calculated simply: the cost of tension fabrics + the cost of a load-bearing profile laid along the perimeter of the walls + the cost of arranging additional corners (if there are more than 4 of them in the design) + the cost of lamps + installation work.

When calculating the costs of installing floating systems, to the costs of installing ordinary tension structures, you need to add the cost of an LED strip of the required footage, equal to the perimeter of the walls and power supplies (transformers) for protection against overloads and power surges at the rate of 1 device per 10 m of strip. It is necessary to take into account that:

  • multi-color (RGB) tapes are more expensive than white ones;
  • When choosing strips with color LEDs, you will additionally need a remote control for adjusting the brightness of the light output and color.

Each owner can calculate the cost of a new super-fashionable ceiling and decide on a budget in advance.

Stretch or suspended ceilings

For those who have not yet decided for themselves which is better - a suspended ceiling or a suspended one, we will try to make the task easier through a brief comparative analysis:

  • Stretch ceilings are good, first of all, for their irresistible appearance and comparative speed of installation, but installation can only be carried out with the involvement of third-party specialists due to the complexity of the technology (see Advantages of stretch ceilings: again about the good).
  • Suspended ceilings can be installed independently, and they have virtually no restrictions on complexity. However, they cannot boast, for example, of the ideal gloss inherent only to film stretch fabrics (see Aluminum suspended ceilings - types, scope, installation features).

Combination of a suspended ceiling with a suspended ceiling in a two-level ceiling structure

  • When determining which is better - a suspended or suspended ceiling, in each specific case you should take into account the characteristics of the room. Thus, stretch ceilings are usually used for luxury modern interiors, but, for example, they are not suitable for outdoor rooms and rooms without heating, since they become brittle at low temperatures, which cannot be said about suspended systems.
  • It is advisable to use suspended ceilings in the decoration of large premises - offices and other institutions; moreover, such systems look more strict.

Do you need floating coatings?

Floating structures:

  1. Fabulously attractive. However, their advantage over suspended ceilings tied to walls is mostly purely aesthetic. Therefore, each owner decides for himself whether to invest more money in beauty.
  2. They illusorily expand the space. The absence of corners visually raises the ceiling, making the vault light and, one might say, frivolous. Sometimes it seems that the fabric will hang a little and fly away with the wind, leaving behind the endless sky. However, this effect is only possible with a properly designed and installed system.

Do not forget that the floating effect is achieved thanks to lighting, therefore it appears only in the dark, and during the day these will be ordinary tension structures.

To expand, reduce or adjust the room, alternative techniques will be needed.

Installation process

The installation of a floating stretch ceiling also depends on factors such as the presence of elements remote from the walls, built-in furniture, curtains, hatches planned on the ceiling, and so on. A typical work scheme starts with level shooting. You need to determine the line along which the baguette will be attached.

The second stage is to mark points for platforms for cornices, chandeliers, and other elements. Then, in fact, the platforms and the Soaring baguette are installed. The tape is inserted into the suspended ceiling after. All that remains is to stretch the film.

Price and owner reviews

The price is calculated using the formula: the cost of a regular ceiling + the cost of each linear meter of the soaring set. This is a baguette and a ribbon. Suppose you order a room with an area of 25 m2. from a simple white film and the company charges 400 rubles for each square of a typical ceiling. It turns out that the price of 25 m2 is 10,000 rubles, taking into account that:

  • there will be no additional structures such as cornices, chandeliers
  • there will be no aspects that complicate the work, such as covering the walls with porcelain stoneware that is difficult to pass through, or a large number of corners in the room, especially rounded ones.

Now we add the footage of the special baguette. Suppose it will run along only one side of the hall, 6 m long. The company estimates each meter of the soaring ceiling at 1,000 rubles. This means that you need to add another 6,000 rubles to the basic 10,000. The total check is 16,000 rubles.

For the client, an accurate calculation is a difficult task, since there is rarely knowledge of all the aspects that complicate and reduce the cost of the work, or an accurate vision of the design of the future ceiling.

Calculating the required number of lamps so that it does not end up being too bright or, on the contrary, dark, is also not an easy task. Therefore, the most accurate numbers are obtained by measurement. It is carried out by a master in the presence of the client. He not only calculates the cost, but also explains all the nuances of choosing film, baguette, light sources, and location.

Exclusive multi-level soaring ceiling

Reviews about floating ceilings can be negative precisely because of a lack of information, that is, insufficient consultation. Whose fault it was is worth understanding individually in each specific case.

But the result is the same. Consumers complain that they did not expect such dim light, burnout of the tape, or a visible gap in the profile. The incompatibility of a floating structure with non-ideal walls also becomes a surprise if the measurer has not previously clarified this nuance.

If at the measurement stage all the points are explained, competent advice is given on choosing a room and the exact price is named, customer reviews are usually positive. The soaring ceiling pleases the eye and remains relevant, in contrast to fleeting trends in film with perforation, soldering, and photo printing.

There is also a fashion for contour ceilings, which some confuse with floating ones. But, in the contour LEDs are located under the film. This gives the glow line a clear outline. Hence the name of the design. It is losing relevance because it is problematic to maintain. If the tape burns out, you can install a new one only by dismantling the film.

How not to make mistakes when buying?

Which manufacturer's stretch ceilings should you choose? It is difficult to give a definite answer to this question. After all, for one consumer the priority is an attractive design, while for another, environmental friendliness or an affordable price. In order not to make a mistake with your choice, you should definitely ask the seller for a quality certificate for the product. By choosing a well-known manufacturer with a good reputation, you minimize the risk of purchasing a fake and increase the chances of making a successful purchase. An original ceiling from a reputable manufacturer will last a long time, without any complaints about quality or appearance.

MSD films

And our review of tension material manufacturers is crowned by the Chinese corporation MSD.
Not only in Russia, but throughout the world, this company is a leader among budget PVC films. To manufacture its products, the company uses German equipment, European technologies and high-quality raw materials. The result is a film that successfully competes with well-known European brands. MSD certified fabrics have the following advantages:

  • low cost, affordable to most Muscovites;
  • environmentally friendly, hygienic and hypoallergenic;
  • the largest width is 500 cm (only MSD produces such sizes with quality certificates);
  • durability;
  • a huge assortment: matte, satin, glossy and decorative (no one else produces such a wide choice of decorative textures) films in a wide palette of colors;
  • strength, water resistance and elasticity. A canvas weighing 190 g/m2 with a thickness of 0.18 mm retains up to 100 l/m2 in case of flooding.

Well, in the end it remains to add that, despite the wide choice of colors and textures, Muscovites most often (up to 90%) order white matte stretch ceilings from Chinese MSD films. This is explained by their financial affordability, a variety of sizes that allow you to choose a ceiling without seams, and an appearance that is familiar to our mentality.
