TOP—7. The best corded screwdrivers of 2021. Rating!

How to choose an 18 volt cordless screwdriver?

Types of cordless screwdrivers

Depending on your intended use, you should choose one of the following types of screwdriver:

  • Cordless Screwdriver : The smallest type of screwdriver, these are ideal for most household applications, from assembling furniture to mounting lamps, hardware, pictures, etc. They are usually powerful enough to drive screws in most soft materials such as wood.
  • Impact screwdrivers : more versatile but heavier than just cordless screwdrivers. This type can solve most tasks around the house and in professional work.
  • Drill Drivers : From home to professional models, the market offers a wide range of drill drives. These tools are compatible with most types of drive and drill bits and can be used for a variety of jobs, from drilling holes in wood, metal, and plastic to driving self-tapping screws and screws into the same materials.

Which type of cordless screwdriver should I choose?

To answer this question, ask yourself why you need a screwdriver? If you need a screwdriver for simple household applications, an inexpensive, quality cordless screwdriver is your best choice.

If you're making more complex robots, your best option might be a cordless drill/driver, which you can use for both drilling holes and screwing in fasteners.

Read: TOP 20 12 Volt Cordless Screwdrivers

It's unlikely that you'll need an impact driver unless you need extreme power for home renovation or professional purposes. Not only will you not be using the tool to its full capacity, but it is also heavier both in weight and in operation.

Impact or non-impact model?

The main purpose of a screwdriver is to tighten/unscrew self-tapping screws, so choosing a corded screwdriver for your home in impact/non-impact mode should be done with an emphasis on this type of work. The impact or pulse mode itself does not rotate the bit evenly, but with certain jerks, thereby improving the screwing of self-tapping screws into solid material. Additionally, the impact mode allows you to drill small holes in concrete or brick, temporarily turning the screwdriver into a drill.

However, there is one significant disadvantage in impact models - the price. With equal performance indicators, the price of impact and non-impact models may differ by several thousand. If you work mainly with drywall, then it is better to take a non-impact model with adjustable torque. For harder materials, you should pay attention to the “shurik” with impact mode.

What type of 18 volt screwdriver should I choose?

It's hard to say which one is the best type of screwdriver because each type serves a different purpose.

Straight cordless screwdrivers : Similar to hand screwdrivers, these are small tools that can usually fit into a pocket. They are also the cheapest type and are usually ideal for simple applications or reaching awkward places. However, they are a little less suitable for all-purpose tasks than the pistol type.

Read: Rechargeable battery for a screwdriver: which one is better to choose?

Pistol cordless screwdrivers : These are easier to maneuver than straight screwdrivers and these tools have a pistol style grip. You can usually control the rotation and some models come with variable speeds. The only downside is that they are bulkier and these models are difficult to maneuver in tight or awkward spaces.

Rotary screwdrivers : These models combine the best of both worlds. They are usually small enough to fit in a pocket or small bag, and you can lock the handle in different positions to use the tool as either a straight or pistol screwdriver.

Cordless screwdriver DeWALT DCF620D2K 30 Nm

Review

Pros: Reliable. Convenient Disadvantages: Small capacity of standard batteries Comment: DEWALT 18.0 V XR DCF620D2K-QW 509FA I took it for the amount of work. A belt screwdriver speeds up the work very much. Everything is working. Like everything. A little later I'll get a larger battery for it. Nice box, can be combined with similar ones.

Cordless drill-driver Interskol DA-10/18ER 16 Nm

Reviews

Advantages: LI-ION battery, illumination of the work area, switches off the battery when fully charged Disadvantages: not identified yet Comment: With a similar battery (example) AEG costs 7 mowers (of course the German is better quality, but the price!)!
And disconnecting the battery from charging (in addition to the fact that it is LI-ION) will last you a very long time. I have been working with a cordless drill Interskol DA - 10/18ER for more than a year. It is very convenient for renovation work in apartments or for quickly assembling furniture. It doesn’t weigh that much, and the power is quite sufficient for drilling holes in brick walls; I can’t say anything about concrete - I haven’t tried it.

Good attachments for tightening screws are included.

It has two speeds, but I always use one. The sore spot, as with all such equipment, is the battery. The battery charges quickly. Two batteries included: a lithium-ion battery is simply super compared to a nickel-cadmium battery, lighter in weight and smaller in size. In general, a good product, I advise everyone to buy it.

Characteristics

  • hammerless drill/driver
  • powered by Li-Ion battery 1.30 Ah, 18 V
  • maximum torque 16 Nm
  • number of operating speeds: 2
  • chuck diameter 0.8 – 10 mm
  • spotlight lamp
  • electronic speed control, power button locking
  • two batteries, case, charger included, weight 1.36 kg

Security measures

When working with power tools, you must follow safety precautions:

  1. Before turning on the power tool, you need to visually check the tool to identify any defects in the housing, power cable and rotating parts of the drill.
  2. Changing the nozzle, if it is a gear chuck, should only be done with a wrench designed for this purpose. In this case, make sure that the nozzle is firmly attached.
  3. There should be no foreign objects in the work area.
  4. When working, it is forbidden to touch the rotating elements of the drill.
  5. Do not try to stop the cartridge with your hands.
  6. Take care of your clothing and do not start work with loose clothing or long, flowing hair. All this can get wrapped around the rotating chuck of the drill.
  7. Do not leave the power tool switched on unattended; it should be unplugged immediately after finishing work.

The best BOSCH 18 volt screwdrivers

Cordless screwdriver BOSCH GSR 18 V-EC TE 0 25 Nm

Review

The Bosch GSR 18 V-EC TE Solo 0.601.9C8.003 cordless screwdriver is equipped with a brushless motor, which extends its service life. The soft pad on the handle prevents your hand from slipping during operation. The spindle rotation speed is adjusted by pressing the “Start” button, which is very convenient when performing operations such as, for example, inserting self-tapping screws.

Advantages: The tool is simply a beast, as previously written, it rips the heads off self-tapping screws made of low-quality metal, the battery lasts a very long time, and charges for about an hour, it works in any weather and with any loads, the only thing for self-tapping screws from 70mm is better to drill a hole - screw it in for a long time or you will break it off self-tapping screw Comment: I bought this monster to redo the roof (I removed one, made a new metal tile), install a fence made of corrugated sheets, and so on in small things. At first he worked on his own, but when he couldn’t keep up, he hired Chebureks, and they built the roof, almost finished the fence, and they killed him - and their methods are familiar to me, I was afraid that they would kill him first. For myself, I think this tool is the best in terms of price/quality ratio.

Characteristics

  • hammerless screwdriver
  • powered by 18 V Li-Ion battery
  • maximum torque 25 Nm
  • number of operating speeds: 1
  • spotlight lamp
  • electronic speed control

Important little things you need to know

We have listed the main selection criteria, but the details are also important, those little things that are very important:

  1. Reverse – most screwdrivers have a reverse function, because fasteners need to be screwed in as well as unscrewed.
  2. Backlight – the built-in LED flashlight makes working in poorly lit rooms or in the evening much easier. And usually all screwdrivers have such a flashlight, the only question is its location. Often the flashlight is placed under the socket, coaxially with the body, which is not always satisfactory, since the socket blocks the light. But the flashlight, built into the lower part of the tool handle, and the directional light freely illuminates the work area.
  3. Battery charging indicator. A useful little thing, but some cheap Chinese “brands” do not have it, sticking a false indicator on the battery. And budget screwdrivers from “normal” manufacturers also do not always have such an indicator.
  4. Spare battery. High-quality mid-budget cars are usually equipped with a replaceable battery. This is convenient while one is being used and the other is charging.
  5. Weight, balance and ergonomics of the tool, which allows you to work with minimal labor costs.

Torque limit

Almost every screwdriver model has this function. The torque limit allows you to adjust the tightening level, above which the coupling slips, and the self-tapping screw or screw is screwed in to the desired level, without over- or under-twisting, which is important, especially when installing drywall.

Cheap models have 5-6 torque adjustment positions, more expensive ones have 10-20 or more. An unlimited mode is provided for drilling, and usually the position is indicated by a special icon.
