Which mattress is better to choose: customer reviews - Rating of mattress manufacturers

The quality of sleep affects our performance throughout the day, our physical and emotional state. The spine bears the main load during sleep. The height and material of the pillow matters, but it is easier to choose them based on your feelings. Finding a mattress that will allow you to relax and unwind is more difficult, and it costs much more. Therefore, you need to approach your choice responsibly. Descriptions of characteristics and customer reviews will help you choose the best mattress for sleeping.

Types of mattresses

All types of modern mattresses can be divided into two groups according to their internal filling:

  • Spring
  • Springless

It is impossible to say unequivocally that one of them is better than the other. It all depends on the user’s age, state of health and even diagnosis. It matters whether he sleeps on his own or shares a bed with a loved one. You can’t discount personal preferences, which influence the rating of a mattress.

Springless

From the name of these mattresses it is clear that they do not have springs inside. This does not mean old products filled with rags, known from the last or the century before last. They were replaced by spring ones. They were much softer, but after prolonged use they could injure the owner with the sharp edge of the spring, which came off the frame and stuck out.

The development of modern technologies has made it possible to create models that are not inferior in comfort to spring ones, and in many respects superior to them. The filler here is natural and artificial materials.

Springless mattresses are also divided into groups. They can be of three types:

  1. Monolithic - made from one material
  2. Mixed, in which the main monolithic filler is located in the middle, and on both sides of it there are layers of material with other characteristics.
  3. Puff pastry differs in that it has different hardness on both sides. If instead of a soft mattress you need to sleep on a hard one, just turn it over to the other side.

Advantages of springless mattresses:

  • Lungs
  • They never creak
  • Do not create extraneous sounds such as creaking springs

Flaws:

  • Expensive
  • Potholes may appear

Spring

Mattresses with a spring block installed inside are popular due to their long service life and affordable price. They also come in two types, depending on how the springs are connected to each other.

The best budget mattresses with independent springs

With dependent springs (“Bonnel”)

The Bonnel spring block consists of large-diameter springs installed in rows, intertwined and connected to a common frame.

Advantages:

  • Affordable price
  • An air gap remains inside the mattress, which promotes good ventilation of the product

Flaws:

  • The springs may become detached from the common unit. Then waves appear on the surface of the mattress and it becomes uneven. The ribs can protrude and make sleep uncomfortable.
  • After some time, the mattress may begin to creak when the sleeper moves.
  • When two people of different weights sleep on such a mattress, the lighter one rolls off the heavier one, the movements of one of them are transferred to the other

With independent springs

A set of springs, each of which is located in a separate dense fabric bag - a “glass”, is called independent. After all, they are not directly connected to each other, they do not touch each other. This mattress has good orthopedic properties and allows you to rest well.

Review of manufacturers

The most famous manufacturers of orthopedic mattresses in Russia are five companies: Askona, Consul, Dreamline, Ormatek and Toris .

Askona is the largest Russian plant. Famous brands are produced on its premises: Serta, IKEA, King Koil and others. The cost of their products is higher than most of their competitors.

Ormatek is the second largest production. Their prices for popular models are always slightly lower than their competitors. In general, the company sells products at the most reasonable prices. Dreamline specializes in the production of bedroom furniture and orthopedic mattresses at a very affordable price.

Toris and Consul are also quite large and well-known factories. Mattresses from Consul are on average 30% more expensive than similar models. Toris offers the most modest selection of mattresses, but at an adequate price.

Among foreign companies, the leaders are Sealy , Serta (in Russia, orthopedic mattresses under this brand are manufactured by the Askona ) and the French Simmons , known here as Sleepeezee .

Mattress filler

It is best that the material used to fill mattresses consists of natural substances. These are lycra and coconut coir (fiber) that make the mattress soft and elastic. Felt is also a natural material, but it does not have elasticity and softness. But this is expensive and does not happen often. For a good product, it is enough that the substitutes are of high quality.

Foam rubber, padding polyester, Holcon, and spanbod are often used as filler for cheaper models. They also come in different qualities. The well-known polyurethane foam (PPU) is also foam rubber. But manufacturers call it artificial latex. Its density should not be less than 25 kg/m³, otherwise the mattress will lose its elasticity after some time. Users claim that this happens after 3-6 months.

Some unscrupulous manufacturers claim that their mattress has natural filling. But in fact, it turns out that the thickness of this layer is no more than 1 cm. The remaining 1-2 cm are made of foam rubber or felt instead of latex or coconut coir. Sometimes there is batting inside the mattress. A product made from it does not spring and quickly settles, forming bumps.

The filling made of coconut fibers allows the mattress to “breathe”, which means that even in the hottest weather your bed will remain dry. Coir has bactericidal properties, does not accumulate dust and is not susceptible to mites and other parasites.

When buying a mattress, pay attention to whether the thickness of the layers is indicated on the packaging. Don't buy very cheap products.

Features of choice

When searching for an orthopedic mattress, you need to take into account several parameters, on the basis of which you will be able to avoid mistakes:

  1. Degree of hardness. Each person has their own individual needs. For this reason, manufacturers produce products with different hardness: soft, standard and reinforced.
  2. Size. The mattress can be for children, teenagers or adults. When going to the store, it is recommended to measure the bed inside. The final figure should be slightly less than the final figure, otherwise it will not be included in the basis.
  3. Fillers. Modern products are of two categories: spring and springless. It is impossible to say which is better. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

An orthopedic mattress, selected in accordance with all recommendations, will be the key to a healthy and sound sleep.

Spring block

The orthopedic effect of using a mattress depends on the quality of the spring block. The product for the manufacture of Bonnel springs must use strong wire, and the optimal number of springs is 256 pieces/m².

Some manufacturers, to save money, do not install frames at all. The savings are 10%, but the quality of the mattress drops sharply. Others save on wire by using 4 turns instead of 5 turns. The mattress loses its elasticity.

A quality mattress with a bonnel block should have a thickness of 17 cm or more. To find out whether the thickness has been added by using felt, compress the mattress until the spring block begins to shrink. Then measure the thickness of the mattress. it should be 14-15 cm.

If the mattress consists of independent springs, it must adapt to the owner’s body and support it in weight. To check, you need to place the mattress vertically and tilt it towards the wall at an angle. It should not deform or bend under its own weight.

Springless

There is a huge range of models on the market, but choosing something of really high quality is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. To avoid disappointment in your purchase, read the characteristics of each mattress in advance.

Upholstery

There are also certain requirements for upholstery fabric. It should be made of high-quality knitwear, silk, non-woven materials, jacquard with a ratio of synthetics and natural fibers of 30/70. The cover must be quilted, otherwise the mattress will spread out. In appearance, these are squares with a side of no more than 2 cm. There should be no gaps in the stitches. To check the quality of the material, stretch and rub it a little. If the quality of the fabric is low, it will immediately begin to fray or become electrified.

Children's version

The line of mattresses for babies is represented by many models. Each has its own characteristics and disadvantages. It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with all the specifications before going to the store.

Maximum weight supported

A mattress can only support a certain amount of the sleeper's body weight. The minimum load per seat is 80 kg, the maximum is 150, 180. The total weight of those sleeping on the entire mattress can reach 245 kg. You can find out the permissible load by looking at the information on the label.

When buying a mattress, you need to check whether its parameters correspond to the size of the bed on which it will lie. It’s good if its length was 20 cm greater than your height. For a single mattress, the width must be at least 80 cm, for a double mattress - from 160 cm. You must take into account your equipment.
